Florida’s fun-filled recruiting run continued to roll on Tuesday afternoon.
No, it wasn’t another commitment, but it was as pleasantly surprising as many of the pledges have been.
Last month, Tampa (Fla.) Catholic four-star cornerback Jameer Grimsley told Inside the Gators that though he liked Florida, realistically the Gators entered the picture too late to be a real factor for him.
Not long after that, he set official visits to Alabama, Florida State, Michigan, North Carolina, and Penn State.
Things weren’t looking favorable for Florida.

However, then came Tuesday’s unofficial visit to Gainesville along with his father.
“We got there around nine [a.m.] had breakfast talked with coach C-Ray [Corey Raymond] for a little bit, toured the facility, took pictures, watched summer workouts, and talked with Coach [Billy] Napier and other staff members.”
The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder said back in May that one of the reasons Florida wasn’t that high on his list was there was a lack of a relationship between him and the UF staff.
That took a turn for the better on Tuesday.
“I spoke with Coach C-Ray and Coach AB [defensive backs assistant Allen Brown] the most. The Florida staff’s message was that I am a priority target for them and that they will be recruiting me hard until the end. They really want me to come to Florida.”
Not only did the Florida staff make an impression, but watching and speaking to two defensive backs also impacted Grimsley.
“The highlight of the day was watching the summer workouts and watching the defensive backs do drills. I talked to Devin Moore and Eugene Wilson, who’s from Tampa and one of my friends since little league and he said it’s been great so far. He wants to put UF back on top and become part of that rebuild to make something special.”
Grimsley said that Florida won’t get an official visit – he could return to campus in July.
With that, they have made a move up his list.
A big move.
“Florida is in my top three after this visit,” said Grimsley. “It’ll be coming out soon who the other two are.”
Grimsley is the No. 199 ranked prospect in the nation according to the On3 Consensus.
