We might not ever come back to where we were

This is depressing to read if you love Florida football.

. IMO Mac is a good coach who forgot who his boss was and had some meltdowns that gave the AD no choice but to fire him. Mullen looked great as long as he was coaching someone else's recruits. His own classes always looked good until enrollment was over and some of them couldn't qualify. His rosters got worse and worse until his inevitable disastrous season got him fired, and he left behind a roster that was a couple levels below SEC standards. But to say that UF with its reputation, financial resources, and recruiting territory and a coaching staff with nationally respected coaches who recruit all day every day will not regain championship form is just stupid. The recruiting classes and the recruits themselves say the exact opposite. You would have to take this article seriously for it to be depressing, and why would you take this article seriously? It's an exercise in unjustified assumptions. Junk.

The writer is a Florida guy.
I have no problem with the guy, I have a problem with his attitude and the attitudes of a significant portion of the Gator fanbase who seem to look for misery no matter how many positive changes have been made in the football program. They seem to delight in whining and demanding the firing of UF coaches who work their butts off in ridiculous work schedules thanks to stupid NCAA rules which were changed with no regard for coaching staffs or their families and allow no time off for college athletic staff at all. They are Florida guys too, and their families and friends read these uninformed demands for their jobs over a losing season strictly a result of a roster they had little to do with, and was nowhere near SEC standards. In case you hadn't noticed it, UF fans have earned one of the worst reps of any college fanbase out there, and I remember when it was the opposite. I'm afraid I'm coming around to the opinion its a generational phenomena common to the latest generation of our culture where people enjoy victimhood, and no one seems to have the guts to be part of a cure, everyone has rights, and no one has responsibilities. The coaches and coach's families and friends read these stupid, whiny, condemning articles just like you, and they are people too. Florida people.

Few schools ever get to the level we got to when Meyer and Tebow and Harvin were here. Those were some of the greatest teams ever only rivaled by current day Alabama and Georgia. Maybe Clemson for a few years. Miami way back in the day. Maybe an Oklahoma or Nebraska run. It's a very short list of teams that have ever reached that level. It's no shame if we don't get that good again for a long time.

It should expect though to get back to dominating Kentucky, Missou, USCe, etc. and the season coming down to how we do vs. Georgia and LSU. No more Vandy loses!

If you watch the recruiting, which I suspect you don't, and you know much about the current staff, which I also suspect you don't, you would write a post just like yours. UF is recruiting elite athletes for the first time since Meyer was here. Read over the recruiting forums. The 5-star talent committed and visiting UF in June alone should have you feeling pretty good. UF will go into the 2023 season with a decent defense and some pretty good playmakers on the offense. That's after just over one year. It's not going to be a long time, but it won't be this year either. 2025 is the year UF gets to go championship hunting again. 2024 they'll be a good SEC program. This year is only year two of a re-build. Might still be a little bumpy. Just be patient. The coaching staff is doing all the work. It wouldn't hurt to acknowledge them once in awhile.

I'm not complaining about coaching or effort or the kids we are getting. We are getting better.

I'm just pointing out that "getting back to where we were" in the Tebow days is not very likely. It's extremely rare for any team at any time to be as talented as the 2006-2009 Gators. It's a reasonable expectation to get back to dominating the Kentucky's and South Carolina's (and Vanderbilts, etc.) of the conference every year and being in contention, in the discussion, for winning the SEC every few years and in the discussion nationally every decade or two.

I have been watching recruiting in depth (some might say obsessively) for a very long time. I know where we are. We've never put this much effort into recruiting at Florida before Napier and it's paying off. It's not great yet but imagine where recruiting would be if Mullen were still running the show!

I think what you're missing is that a great recruiting class is a result of great recruiting. The great recruiting is already happening, June is a huge month in this years recruiting cycle. I haven't seen this many high 4 and 5-star recruits coming to G-ville since Meyer was there, and nobody has a higher star-rating per commitment than the Gators for this cycle. Most don't see it, and some don't want to, but every member of this staff is recruiting lights out.
