Two thoughts on a Tuesday...

Let's put this first game in the rear view mirror and move on by saying this, any success or failure this season is accredited to Billy Napier.

Period.

Dan Mullen wasn't calling the plays or managing the clock on Saturday. A lack of talent wasn't the reason UF was never a factor in a game in which Utah was down eight starters.

If UF turns it around and goes on a tear, Napier gets all the credit in the world. If they struggle, that's on him as well.

That's what happens when you are the head coach.

-------

It's going to be interesting to follow attendance over these next two home games.

I doubt McNeese was going to be a sell out regardless of what happened against Utah, but Florida needs a packed house for Tennessee.

No, not just for the home field advantage, or asthetics on TV, but for recruiting as well.

Even if you're not thrilled with the product on the field, it's still to Florida's advantage, thus to your advantage as a fan, to have you come out and support the program.

Agreed but we need to demolish mcneese state to ensure Tennessee attendance. Folks will be hesitant to go and spend even more big money if we look rough this weekend.

I agree with the points as well, and want to add two of my own.

I was never one to judge the new program based solely on won/loss record, as most people seem to do.
I want to judge based on how the team performs on the field.
I have been somewhat disappointed lately with the continued mental lapses, which should not be dependent on talent or HS recruiting rating.
Even if you are a one-star recruit, the coaching staff should have the player mentally prepared to play.
This will be interesting to monitor as the season progresses.

Napier has reportedly been praised as being very detail oriented in his organization.
With that, it seems strange that game-time errors keep occurring, such as two players with the same jersey number on the field at the same time, offensive players not lined up correctly, etc.
Again, these are things that are not dependent on the talent level, but on coaching staff preparation/organization.
Another point to monitor as the season progresses.

I agree given Napier's well publicized penchant for detail we shouldn't be missing these "details" like fielding punts at the goal, procedure penalties, not enough people in the huddle, etc.

Duke doesn't have those problems, for example..

I don't think there's anything we can do against McNeese that's going to matter.

I hope we play a plain game. Come out of there with a win and give Tennessee hell the next weekend.

If we start out 1-2 I won't know what to think.

To add, not getting defense lined and prepared for opponents snap. Thought Grantham was DC again.

We can complain in the offseason but when the games start we need to get behind the team let them play the games and then we can assess how things went when the season is over.
