In a matter of 2-3 years, it's gone from a P5 to a P2. These two can basically do what they want, and everyone else will either fall in line or get left out. They are calling the shots.
Wise thing to do. I predict within the next 5 years, both conferences will have 20-22 teams and will increase their domination in influence in the college sports world.
I'm not so sure that this is what's happening.
If it happened ten years ago, maybe, but so much has changed and is changing.
Also, note that the quote talks about "college athletics" in general, and not just football.
I agree with the implication that the two conferences are very influential based on the money they are pulling in.
But the one variable that everyone ignores, and can't anymore, are the "student-athletes" themselves.
They will eventually unionize, and they will have more ability to dictate how conferences are structured and how to run the sports they participate in.
If you don't believe it, just look at the pro sports today.
I think this committee is trying to strategize this inevitable future and try to delay sharing revenue money for as long as they can.
