I'm not necessarily disagreeing with Saban, but I would use different terminology.
I would use the terms mental focus and discipline to describe what he refers to.
Culture is something I would use to descibe team mentality and work ethic.
Urban Meyer had a toxic culture (as he admitted) by creating different classes of players - the privileged and the ones who weren't.
But they all had good mental focus and discipline and were able to win games.
It's just the bad culture caught up with the team.
But the locker room is clean so that means we have a great culture.
I don't know if this is a poor attempt at a joke, but the clean locker room is just paying attention to details, not unlike you would have in the military.
I am tending to agree with Saban on the mental focus/discipline aspect which tends to manifest itself in the number of penalties in games.
The seven penalties in the Samford game were inexcusable.
It's something I've noted to keep an eye on this year, since there have been too many penalties in games in the last couple of years.
Usually a sign of lack of focus/discipline.
