Please remind me again why Napier is supposed to be better than Mullen

We have fans who make it their life's mission to run off our coaches.

It's no wonder Steve Spurrier grew tired of our act and went to the NFL.

Nothing is ever good enough.

Did you really compare a coach with a losing record here to one that won 9 SEC Championships here?
His point is still valid. There more than a few outspoken people that just like to bitch and moan about everything. They should hold themselves to the same standard and maybe enjoy life a little more. Mopey fan bases are not going to make a coach perform better....

One great example of this was the not so small contingent of so called Gator fans that just hated Dan Mullen as an OC, even when we out scoring everyone, winning national championships and Heisman trophies. It wasn't good enough. You would hear things like "Mullen's play calling is too conservative." "One more QB dive and ...."

I really find it funny (sad?) when fans who think they know a lot about football complain about play calling by people that know infinitely more about football!

I think we have to keep in mind that Mullen essentially fired himself. He just gave up on us and college football in general. He lost interest and didn't want to be here, or anywhere else.

I'm not sure anyone thought Napier would be better than an engaged Dan Mullen but we had to get someone.

The fact that LSU got tried and true Brian Kelly and we got an upstart with a high upside is a more fair criticism. The upside us might be that Kelly doesn't have that many years left. If Billy can get it together, he could be successful here for a long time.

2 1/2 more months and we'll know he is on the right path or in his way out.
Due to some bad luck and some bad performances he's exhausted all the good will possible. Unfortunately, it's put up or get lost at this point. I really hope we don't have to start over... It's easier than it used to be to start over but it's still a tough transition for everyone... There is far from a guarantee that the next guy will be better. It's at best a 50-50 shot...

Coach is paid to win games. He hasn't done that. Shouldn't he be held to a high standard since he is one of the highest paid coaches?

Has what he did so far been satasfactory to you?

Give coach Napier credit for signing players that showed up and contributed. Coach Mullen would sign players to boost his class ranking but they never reported.
That is comparing apples to oranges.

It used to be that every recruiting reporter across the country would have to follow, 3-to-6 (or more depending on program) signees per class to monitor their academics.

There would be casualties all across the country. Kids wouldn't make it and have to go the JUCO route.

Now, start pointing out signees that haven't made it in across the country over the last three or so years.

There aren't many.

The reason you can't compare the last several cycles to the past is that the NCAA no longer requires a standardized test score. It used to be that with the sliding scale, if a kid had such and such a GPA, he had to have such and such a test score. They would have to test, test and retest or hope to raise their GPA in order to make it.

That is no longer the case.

Basically, if you take the required core credits and graduate high school, you are qualified in the eyes of the NCAA.

So it's beyond comparing apples to oranges. Its more like grapes to groundhogs.

That isn't to say that some school's academic departments won't tell athletic departments that after looking over a transcript, they don't believe a kid can make it in that environment, but if UF signs you, you are all but guaranteed to get in as long as you graduate high school.

Now, there are different standards when it comes to transfering from college to Florida, but some of that is based on SEC transcript requirements as well and isn't particular to UF.

"There would be casualties all across the country. Kids wouldn't make it and have to go the JUCO route." Or the West Virginia or Tennessee route.
