It's pretty common knowledge that there was much more wrong with Florida football than a shoe thrown by a Florida player. His last contract extension says that the AD was running out of patience. Mullen has a good offensive football mind and I wish him the best.

He was a better overall coach than coach Napier before he quit on us.

If he had made it through to the new football building being built and hired as many support staff as we do now do you think he could have recruited top 5 classes and built this up?

No, because he didn't want to. Mullen hated recruiting. Napier loves recruiting. Mullen was a poor staff builder and manager. Napier is obviously elite. There's really no comparison between them. Mullen has made a career of taking credit for what others did. I don't hate him and wish him the best, but I can't respect the way he treats the people he hires and works for.

I am happy that Mullen would rather be associated with Mississippi St than UF. He should not have gotten a dime of payoff to leave. He ran the program into the ground. He was a lousy administrator and a poor judge of talent. Proof? Had Felipe Franks not broken his ankle we would have never known what Kyle Trask could do. Why he kept Grantham is one of the most puzzling decisions for any Head Coach to have made. He might have been a better play caller than Napier, and even that is questionable, but he was a piss poor Head Coach who was too lazy to build a Championship program.

Good points, including his ability as a play caller. But his ceiling was at OC, and only if he had some killer recruiters on his offensive staff like his first tenure at UF when the recruiting was being done by Meyer. The problem there was even if you were a felonious POS who could ball, Meyer would recruit you to UF. To my mind the best coach UF has ever had was Spurrier and there are a lot of things in common between Spurs and Napier. JMO.

No doubt SOS was the best ever at UF; he even had a career winning record against Uncle Nick.

If we had to win a game today with the team we have right now, would you want Mullen or Napier to be the coach on the sideline?

I have hope that Napier can be a good coach but I would still take Mullen if I had to win a game today.

If you had Mullen today, you wouldn't have the roster Napier rebuilt or the staff we have. Mullen's gone, embrace it.

Only coach to win a NY bowl game in his first 2 years.

We can't act like that didn't happen.

But we can tell the whole story. McElwaine could recruit and left some talent behind. The first thing Mullen did was meet Mac's last recruits including a top 5 QB who de-commited the next day and went to Ol'Miss where he was All SEC. Mullen won early on Mac's leftover's but the roster ran down until even Mullen got depressed enough to give up. Kyle Trask and Felipe Franks were Mac's recruits. Really, Trask bought Mullen another year that he didn't earn. Strickland should have fired him sooner IMO.

You are correct about Trask, and Mullen was so stubborn/dumb about his Spread Offense, that it took a broken leg by Franks that even allowed the possibility of Trask. I might add, Shane Matthews said 2 years before that Trask was the best QB on the roster. He is saying the same thing now about Mertz.

It's a big if but yes, Mullen would have been fine if the had an army of recruiters, facilities and a near playoff season under his belt.. He is a really good coach.

The LSU loss was the second most devastating loss of my Gator watching career and it certainly but Mullen in a hole. If you recall, he took a ton of criticism for not playing Pitts and probably other players in that game.
