Without knowing much about the competition level for each of those QBs, it sure looks like we have a keeper in Lagway. I hope he can recruit a couple of more players to join him.
I worry about him being a passing quarterback coming to our offense that doesn't like to pass as much as we like to throw. I saw something where Napier has a losing record when his quarterbacks throw more than 25 times a game.
Maybe him being a fan of Florida is greater than his want to be in a passing offense.
I think he represents more of the style of QB play that Napier wants (Dual threat) than Mertz does. That being said, I hope Mertz sticks around for a year to kind of set the standard for game preparation similar to Leak when Tebow was a freshman. Time will certainly tell. After a full year in the system, our young Defensive players are going to be stout next year. Mertz would also benefit with another year.
Is he playing in one of the all star games this year? That's where we've been able to see who really is the best quarterback.
