Do we need a coach that can do more with less

Nobody in their right mind wants him gone already. He gets the time he needs but we might be grumpy along the way when bad things happen.
Besides-there doesn’t appear to be an elite up and coming coach out there right now. Hopefully we don’t need to worry about that for a long while.
I am all in on Napier; that being said, the up-and-coming coach is already on our staff, our new DC Austin Armstrong.

What makes you think Napier is going to outcoach Small?

Mullen did it. He won a game.
Who's Small? And maybe we should be asking what makes you think Napier can't outcoach any other given coach? None of us have seen him coach his own recruits or even run his own offense yet. But we can certainly see how he's doing at building a roster, and since that's the only real evidence of his abilities any of us has seen, I suggest there's no basis for the negativity. So far, he's a success..

That wasn't his offense last year?

No. First, he didn't have a defense at all, unless it was a cupcake opponent.. On offense he had no WR's to stretch the defense vertically. The only reliable receiver he had was Pearsall who doesn't have the speed to challenge elite secondaries deep. Pearsall is more of a slot where his route precision can get him some separation on defenders. Napier was just getting through a season on Mullen's leftovers and the handful of recruits Napier brought in late in the 22 cycle. This will be the first year that he'll have TE's, RB's, WR's, and a couple of very good slot receivers who've had time to learn most of the playbook. The defense will be young in places, but they have speed and an aggressive play caller. It will show signs of being a Napier football team. 2024 we'll see what it's supposed to look like. That's JMO, it seems some think a program can be turned around in 2 or 3 years. The only time I've seen that is when the roster was loaded when a new HC came in. That's not UF at all.

Mullen did more with less at MSU and when he coached Trask to a record breaking season.
No, he didn't. The QB coach was Brian Johnson who was the actual QB whisperer for Trask and also at Miss St for Dak Prescott. He's in the NFL now. Brian Johnson was a rising star in college football and I really hated seeing him leave. Was hoping Napier would keep him, Gonzales, and Savage as Strength & Conditioning coach. They were all great coaches.

Neither Shorter or Henderson were reliable? Pearsall was the only one?

You sound like you hate on all the Mullen leftovers but love the players Napier brought in.

Mullen is gone and for good reason, whether you think so or not. You need to let him go. Shorter and Henderson are also gone. That leaves about 25% of the current Gator roster who were recruited during the Mullen years. I've not said anything that's not complimentary of any of them. They are Gators, and they are on Napier's roster. All of which leaves your post sounding like an airball post. Nothing but air.

Johnson left before the 2021 season. He wasn't here for Mullen's last year so how could Napier keep him?

This writer has a good point.

If we can't recruit to the level of Georgia and Alabama we should get a coach who can do more with less.

From SEC writer Bratton.

Can Billy Napier's Florida program catch up by being a poor man's Georgia/Alabama?

I would take a different approach, find a coach that can do more with less like Kiffin or Heupel.
We can't recruit to Georgia's level. No one can.

Does Mac qualify for that? How different is his tenure at UF if grier doesn’t fail a drug test? His final year he had a top recruiting class before he obviously couldn’t handle it any longer
IMO Mac did a very good job at UF, he recruited well, he coached well, and he came very close to turning the corner and taking flight. But he had some ego issues, similar to Mullen. He didn't understand that the AD was his boss and when the AD point to a specific issue as a problem, you don't argue or stonewall. He completely alienated Strickland, so when he started cracking under the pressure of the job in interviews, instead of helping him out, the AD demanded detailed explanation, and he was right to do it, and that was the end. But when he left Mac had a very good recruiting class (top ten I think) and his next year's class was at #1. So, so, close.
