2026 Rock Hill (S.C.) South Pointe athlete J’Zavien Currence holds a unique distinction, he is one of the only prospects to take part in Florida’s Grill in the Ville for the second consecutive year.

Last year the 6-foot-2 safety was shown around mostly by Jay Bateman, who has since departed for Texas A&M.

This time around it was Florida’s new defensive backfield coaches who were running point for UF.

QUICK Q&A

What was the highlight of your UF visit?
“Getting to spend time with the coaching staff, especially the new defensive backs [Will Harris and Beyah Rasool] staff.”

Which coaches did you speak with the most, and what did they have to say to you?
“I got to spend a lot of time with Coach Will Harris, Coach Beyah, and the Defensive Coordinator, Coach [Austin] Armstrong. They just made it clear letting me know I’m a priority recruit and they want me in their program.”

Is there anything new you learned about the Gators today that you didn’t know before? If so, what?
“Emmitt Smith is the NFL’s all time leading rusher.”

What is the most impressive thing you saw either on a tour of the campus or during one of the presentations? What really stood out?
“Just the genuine conversations I had with Coach Will & Coach Beyah and even guys like Brandon Spikes.”

How do you feel about Florida after visiting today?
“I got a good vibe from Florida. I’ll be back on campus for sure.”

Compare your Saturday visit to Florida to your Sunday visit to Florida State. Did one stand out over the other?
“I can’t at the moment. They were both great in their own way. Both are recruiting me hard. I like that I got to actually see FSU practice and what that looks like.”

It’s still early for you, but do you have any leaders or a leaderboard?
“Right now it’s schools that are recruiting me harder than the rest of my offer list, so I’ve been entertaining those who have been recruiting me the hardest. Right now in no order Florida, Florida State, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Texas A&M have been on me the heaviest. I hear from Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma, USC, Miami, Michigan State, Notre Dame, and Clemson also.”

What other visits do you have planned for the fall? Any schools you know you want to see?
“I want to at least see Oregon, Miami, and Oklahoma. Michigan if it’s possible, but we’ll see.”
