On Thursday Florida joined a long list of programs to have extended an offer to Saraland (Ala.) five-star receiver Ryan Williams, a consensus top-five prospect in the nation in the Class of 2025.
The offer came from Florida’s newest coach, who just happened to come to Florida from the program where Williams is currently committed.
“Coach [Austin] Armstrong said that he would like me to come and be a Gator,” said Williams. Help win some rings.”
Despite suffering through back-to-back losing seasons, Florida’s brand still carries significant weight among top high school prospects.
“Florida was definitely an offer me and my family have been waiting on since my freshman year,” said Williams.
Now that he has received the offer, the next step is making it to Gainesville to see firsthand what the Gators have to offer.
“I’ve been to Alabama, Georgia, and Auburn,” explained Williams when asked about his visit schedule. “For the most part, I will visit them again this summer along with USC and I do plan on visiting Florida ASAP.”
Though he pledged to Alabama last fall, and remains committed to the Tide, the 6-foot, 155-pound playmaker said that he has a group of programs at the top of his list.
He named Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, and Southern Cal.
“I do believe they are the top contenders right now,” said Williams.
As for what he is looking for down the road when he actually signs, he said, “When it’s time to put pen to paper, I want to be confident and comfortable in where I’m going and I want my family to feel the same.”
As a sophomore, Williams totaled 2,700 all-purpose yards while scoring 42 touchdowns.
Williams is the No. 4 rated prospect in the nation according to the On3 Consensus.
We aren't beating Alabama for a five star that lives in the state of Alabama.
You may be right.
In this case though, there are still two full football seasons to be played before he is able to sign with anyone.
Maybe Alabama starts a big downward trend, maybe Florida starts a big upward trend, or maybe things stay the same.
We don't know at this point.
