Whether someone is or isn't a good coach, that is an opinion.

His experience level coaching isn't an opinion. His bio is his bio.

Having inexperienced coaches in vital positions is becoming Billy Napier's MO.

None of this is an opinion, it is straight from their official bios on Gatorzone.

* On his first staff, he hired William Peagler as the tight ends coach. That was the first time Peagler had ever coached tight ends.

* He was replaced by Russ Callaway. This past season was the first time ever Russ Callaway coached tight ends.

* This past year Austin Armstrong coached safeties. That was the first time he had ever served as a safeties position coach.

* Prior to being hired by Florida, defensive line coach Gerald Chatman had two years of experience as a college defensive line coach, and one year as a P5 assistant coach.

* This new offensive line coach has never been a DI offensive line position coach.

None of that is an opinion. Those are facts.

Now, opinion time, is there an upside to hiring a young go-getter? Absolutely. You may hit big time on one of them. Are you likely to have hit after hit after hit on unproven, younger, inexperienced coaches? Probably not.

Seems like Napier thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room with these hires. His track record doesn’t support that. Or with the hires this year, it might be what he could get with a piss poor performance at Florida and being on the hot seat.

He probably is having trouble getting good coaches to come here.

If you are a good coach and you have a good job already why would you want to come here when coach Napier might be on his way out?

He can only get coaches who don't have a lot of other job options.

This is the best we could do. His main qulification is that he played at Louisana before Sunbelt got there.

2013-14 University of Nevada, graduate assistant offensive line coach
2015-16 West Virginia State University, offensive line coach/recruiting coordinator/strength coach/travel coordinator
2017-19 Louisiana State University, graduate assistant tight ends coach
2020 Old Dominion University, tight ends coach
2021 Cleveland Browns, offensive quality control coach
2022 Cleveland Browns, offensive assistant

To be clear, I'm not diminishing the coaching abilities of any of those listed above.

Coach Callaway, in particular, gets high marks from anyone who's been around him.

He may be a superstar in the making for all any of us know.

I'm pointing out that their official bios say that they were inexperienced at the position they were hired for by Napier.

I'm not saying that you are.

I'm saying I don't think good coaches want to come here for a year and then need to go find another job when Napier gets fired.

One could argue that Billy is hiring these coaches in order for him (Billy) to be the most experienced coach on the staff. It is true for everyone with the exception of Ron Roberts. I have said this before, you do not need two OL coaches on freaking Gameday, so he should add Special Teams the Gameday responsibility of one of them. Someone other than a player needs to be responsible for getting the correct players on the field. If this continues the upcoming season, Billy can think only himself for getting fired.
