Former Florida Tight End Ben Troupe (2000-2003) shares 10 observations on Florida football after watching the Gators' Orange & Blue Game over the weekend.

1) My biggest takeaway from Saturday is that Feilipe Franks looks very comfortable beginning his second year in Dan Mullen’s offense.

2) The offensive line still needs more time to come together and develop more chemistry after replacing four of the five starters from last year.

3) If what we saw in on Saturday is any indication, the offense is going to throw the ball downfield more this year - if the line gives the quarterback time that is.

4) I think we are are going to be great by being running back by committee. I believe that Lamical Perine is good enough to be the bell cow, but to be able to keep guys fresh and get the most out of all the guys ability I feel that by committee will be the best route to go. Plus you can still go with the guy who is playing the best at the time. Go with the hot hand, and that may be a different back week to week or even during different parts of a single game.

5) From one former tight end to another, Kyle Pitts is going to have a chance to be a focal point in the passing game as long as he isn't one dimensional and can be a solid blocker in the running game.

6) I am still waiting to see for sure who is going to replace Jachai Polite, but one player I saw Saturday is off to a good start.  I was impressed with Jon Greenard’s ability to get constant pressure and once he gets more comfortable with the scheme and understands and settles into his role I think he will be incredible! The question is, is Jabari Zuniga ready for the bright lights and breakout senior season on the other side?

7) Yes we have depth in the secondary, but even with the defense limited in what they were allowed to do, from what I saw we lack consistency and communication if one of the starters goes down. I feel that our receivers are going to be great this season, but even with that being the case I saw too many guys just running wide open in the secondary that it became a little worrisome. I feel that the guys are going to get it right, but even with some backups out there, that was way too many big plays for our secondary to give up

8) The same as above, it was so disappointing that it deserves two mentions. There were some back-ups playing and the defense was put at a disadvantage by being forced to play a base defense in order to allow the offense to shine for the fans, but the lack of communication on defense has to be addressed and solved by the time the fall camp starts.

9) One big question I have is whether or not Emory Jones is ready to be that solid backup quarterback and actually compete for starting reps once fall camp arrives. Given that the line he was playing behind wasn’t the greatest, but on Saturday I thought he ran too much when this was his opportunity to go out there and show off his arm especially with the defensive playing soft in coverage. The throw he had on the left sideline to Tyrie Cleveland was beautiful I just wanted to see more of that. We know he can run, I wanted to see him pass more. That's all.

10) Finally, are we still living in last year's success and what was our bounce back season or are we ready to make some noise this year and take it to the next level.

It's great to hear what our past players think.

I agree with Troupe on Franks. He is going to have a great year.
