Amateurism is a thing of the past already for the big leagues of college sports. I'm guessing the amateur model will live on in smaller leagues that don't generate enough revenue to pay players.
I'm pretty sure we are also headed to place were players are not students unless they choose to be. 4 years of eligibility? Why not 10? Who knows...
If it comes to the players collectively bargaining for their share of the pie (which seems to be the way we are going) a bunch of issues come up including how to fund non-revenue sports, Title XI, etc. but I think we will all still watch the games.
It will be interesting though the first time the players go on strike for more compensation or benefits. How will we react to that....
