I agree - something's got to give. It seems the schools are still trying to operate as if they are still dealing with "student-athletes" of 100 years ago - give them a scholarship and they owe the school everything.
I don't know where this is heading ... your suggestion probably makes the most sense right now.
I still can't believe there is such a resistance to re-classifying these "student-athletes" as employees and be done with it.
And things are going to get worse ...
I saw this article yesterday where the DOE is suggesting guidance with regard to Title iX.
And I just saw another article where a player is transferring without entering the transfer portal!
This is now complete chaos.

Bring back the sit out a season if you transfer rule. Problem solved with just this.

If you transfer you cannot sign a NIL deal or be compensated in any way for the first year.

Every player from every team gets the exact same amount of money.

Salary cap

No one can make more than an NFL rookie at his position.
