This is interesting to hear.
Putting my responsibilities to Inside the Gators to the side, as I have posted numerous times, I am a Billy Napier fan in that I find it hard to believe anyone who has spent any time at all listening to him, to what he believes in and what he sees as being important, would not want to see him to do well.
He is the definition of someone you want to see succeed. He is the type of person you pull for.
I hope this thing gets turned around and he has UF competing for a spot in the CFB playoffs - not just because it is good for business, or because I grew up a Gators fan, but because the more Billy Napiers there are in the world of CFB, the better it is for CFB.
I mean that sincerely.
Having said that, there's a reality here. He is 11-14 as the head coach at Florida. There are going to be negative comments and opinions when you lose more than you win - especially how a couple of those losses took place.
That's just life.
On to the subject at hand, I was actually blocked by the Billy Napier Twitter account last National Signing Day (Class of 2023). I inquired about it, wondering why, because I have NEVER made a personal comment about him.
Ever.
None at all.
My posts, replies, and likes on Twitter are there for the world to see. I believe I share what I think is pertinent. Whether it is positive or negative doesn't play a part in it, and it shouldn't.
However, it is never personal.
Minutes after asking about it, I was unblocked.
To be clear, being blocked didn't hinder my ability to do my job. That account doesn't share any news or opinions. Basically, the posts consist mostly of the sunglasses emoji when UF receives a commitment.
However, I did appreciate being unblocked (but I still didn't follow him back again, because I thought that was petty, and I'm not chasing after a damn social media account).
I have been blocked by Coach Sale's account (which I don't believe he runs anyway) for a year or so now. That doesn't bother me, because that account doesn't post information that I need to do my job.
Looking at my follows today, I don't see any mass deletions from the staff on my end, but maybe they are doing it alphabetically, and I'm near the end. Maybe I'm not important enough to be included. Who knows?
I will say that if there was an actual meeting where this was talked about, that would be good for a laugh more than anything else. If you are concerned with something like this when you're coming off back-to-back losing seasons, the end is likely in sight.
This harkens back to the last days of Ron Zook and the 'Us against the world,' approach.
Focus on turning it around on the field, and then you'll hear them singing your praises on social media. If you can't turn it around, you likely won't be around for them to comment on one way or the other.
