Due to inclement weather (rain), Saturday's practice was held in the IPF.
There isn't a ton you can learn during the media viewing period as it is. While you would think that with all the position groups on this one field, you are able to take in more in the allotted 15 minutes, but that really isn't the case. When practice is outside, you can walk around the entire perimeter of all the fields - while indoors, we can only walk around 50% of the field. Also, it is so crowded in there, if you are walking around, you are dodging people.
Having said that...
* Walking through the weight room onto the field,
Aidan Mizell was in there in a black non-contact jersey.
* On Thursday I pointed out that though
DJ Lagway isn't throwing, he is still involved with practice. Today he was taking part in the on-air drills with the receivers. Taking the fictional snap, dropping back, scanning the field, but not actually throwing the ball.
* Judging by the rotation during drills,
Harrison Bailey and
Aidan Warner are the first two up. They are followed by
Tramell Jones Jr. and walk on
Aaron Williams. Now, to be clear, with so much going on in such a limited time that we get to see them, he may have taken part, but I didn't see
Clay Millen throw during the drills I watched.
* While
Jadan Baugh is (and should be) considered the starter based on his terrific rookie campaign, for the drills that I personally witnessed, it was
Treyaun Webb and then
Ja'Kobi Jackson who were taking the lead, at the head of the group and the first in line through the drills.
* It looks quite a bit different seeing the defensive tackles go through positional drills this spring compared to last spring. Gone are
Desmond Watson,
Cam Jackson and
Joey Slackman (all over 300 pounds - two of them over 340 pounds) and in their place at the head of the drills this spring are 280 pound
Brien Taylor Jr., and 290 pound
Tarvorise Brown. While they are smaller weight wise, they look the part physically.
* Speaking of defensive tackles,
Jamari Lyons was in a black non-contact jersey, but didn't at all look like his mobility was limited while going through drills.
* The right side of the line saw
Bryce Lovett and
Damieon George Jr. working with
Hayden Clem at center.
* While other players were standing back out of the way of the action during offensive line drills, when it wasn't his time,
Jake Slaughter was right up beside the action (almost acting as a coach), giving pointers during and after the snap.
