One of the things Billy Napier talked about when hiring some of the defensive staff was it would allow Ron Roberts to move around and see more than just the linebackers. During this open portion of practice, that was what I saw (or for at least as long as I was near the linebackers), other coaches were coaching, but I didn't see Roberts there with the position group doing hands-on instruction.

Brandon Spikes was hanging around the linebackers, and then the defensive linemen.

Also, former defensive tackle Cam Jackson was at practice watching the linemen while wearing his NFL Combine gear.

I tweeted it last offseason, and I'll double down on it this spring, the players just look better than they did the first two years. There are some freaking monsters along the defensive line. I was particularly impressed with how much better Michai Boireau looked compared to last season. He has firmed up considerably.

True freshman Stephon Shivers had on the black non-contact jersey, but was still taking part in the drills.

With the cornerback position decimated by injuries, Devin Moore and Teddy Foster were taking the starting reps.

At one point after coming up empty in the endzone, transfer receiver J. Michael Sturdivant hit the ground and did pushups on his own.

They had the tight ends split into two groups working two different stations. Micah Jones, Cameron Kossman and Caleb Rillos in one group. Hayden Hansen, Tony Livingston, and Scott Isacks in the other. I didn't see Amir Jackson in either group, and I don't remember him being part of the injury list that Billy Napier named off earlier in the day.

I saw Dallas Wilson at the beginning of February, right after he reported, and in loose 'civilian clothing' - he didn't particularly stand out. Seeing him in pads today, next to multiple other receivers, he definitely has a sturdy build that doesn't look like what you would normally expect from a true freshman.

He may be held back from going full speed at practice this spring, but DJ Lagway is still very much involved today. He was around the quarterbacks and coaches, and after a drill came across the field to slack hands with the receivers as they walked to another drill station.
