Some semi-random thoughts on this ....
Does anyone recall the 2012 SEC football season?
Florida tied with Georgia in the East Division with a 7-1 record, but because Georgia beat Florida head-to-head, they went to the SEC championship game.
However, the top six teams from the East (Florida, Georgia, South Carolina) and the West (Alabama, Texas A&M, LSU) went undefeated (31-0) against the rest of the conference.
The records between the top six teams against each other: Georgia (1-1), Florida (3-1), South Carolina (1-2), Alabama (1-1), Texas A&M (1-2), LSU (1-2).
Florida arguably had the better resume, but fell victim to an unbalanced schedule, which has always been a problem.
So that led me to look at the SEC SOS for next year based on 2024 SEC records, and I didn't look into the detailed records, but how many teams with winning SEC 2024 records each team has on its 2025 schedule:
Texas 2
Georgia 4
Alabama 5
Texas A&M 4
Tennessee 2
LSU 4
Ole Miss 2
Auburn 4
South Carolina 5
Oklahoma 7
Florida 6
Missouri 3
Arkansas 6
Kentucky 4
Vanderbilt 6
Mississippi State 6
So just based on this, one could argue that there are eleven teams with easier SEC schedules then Florida, and three others with just as difficult a schedule.
Only Oklahoma plays more teams with winning SEC records last year.
Of the six teams with 2024 winning SEC records that Florida plays this year, only two will be at home (Texas, Tennessee).
Also, don't forget that last year, Florida's 4-4 record placed them tenth, but with another win, they would have been tied for fourth.
What is also interesting that I noticed, is that both LSU and Texas first SEC game will be with Florida.
