To this point in this recruiting cycle St. Petersburg (Fla.) Lakewood three-star offensive tackle Chancellor Campbell has been included in all four versions of our monthly Mock Class for a reason – we thought that he was the top offensive tackle on the board who Florida had the best chance of landing.

That is exactly what happened Sunday when the 6-foot-8, 318-pounder pledged to the Gators right before leaving campus from his weekend official visit.

“I committed to the University of Florida like maybe about an hour ago,” said Campbell.

He went into detail as to why the Gators were his choice.

“It was kind of like, why not Florida? They’ve always talked to me. Always on track. Always messaging. I call them, and Facetime them pretty much every day. They’ve been recruiting me hard for like what, two years now? Since the start of my sophomore year. So, why not?”

Campbell said that Florida’s head coach in particular made an impact on his decision.

“I think really the highlight of today was seeing Coach [Billy] Napier, meeting him back in his office. That’s kind of the dude who really believed in me from the start, recruiting me when I was like really down low [in the rankings]. Always sending me texts. Proud of me for doing this. Seeing my growth. That really was the highlight.”

It wasn’t just Sunday’s meeting with Napier that stood out.

“He drove me from the hotel to dinner in the O’Connell Center,” explained Campbell. “That was great. The head coach is driving you everywhere and talking to you, that must mean that they want you bad. I wanted to come here from the start, but I just had to get some confirmation.”

According to Campbell, Georgia came in second place for his services, and he will no longer take scheduled official visits to Ohio State and Penn State.

Instead, he is turning his attention to recruiting on behalf of the Gators.

“I’m trying to get Canon [Pickett]. I don’t know if we can get him, but I’m trying to get him. He’s coming up here next week.”

In a way, Campbell is playing it forward. He said that after G’Nivre Carr committed to UF this past week, he immediately went to work.

“He called me on Thursday. He was like, ‘What do we have to do to get you to become a Gator?’ I was like, ‘Alight, I’m going to come down there and if it’s good, I’ll commit.’ And he was like, ‘Alright, bet.’ and he was happy for me. I don’t know how he found out (laughing).”
