POST GAME PRESS CONFERENCE
THE BREAKDOWN
PLAYER OF THE GAME OFFENSE: Running back Ja’Kobi Jackson looked like he had this one in the bag after his 90-yard touchdown run. However, no player had a more consistent game from start to finish, as well as putting up big numbers, as did true freshman receiver Dallas Wilson. His 10 catches for 195-yards and two touchdowns were just ridiculous. Also, he was included on our Players of the Quarter for three of the four quarters.
PLAYER OF THE GAME DEFENSE: While Kofi Asare gave redshirt freshman left tackle Fletcher Westphal fits, his three trips to the quarterback late in the game didn’t quite have the same impact as Ty Jackson‘s 11 tackles, two TFL, and one sack outing. He was everywhere, including making plays on special teams.
STAT THAT MATTERED: 10-of-23 for 157-yards. That was Aidan Warner‘s stat line. Also, 50 of those 157 yards came on a screen pass where Jadan Baugh made some incredible moves. It feels like the staff is trying to stuff Warner down the throat of the fanbase as a legitimate option, in order to erase the bad stench he left in his two-game stint last year. Today didn’t accomplish much in that direction as he simply missed too many throws.
THUMBS UP: You don’t want to read too much into one game, a glorified scrimmage at that, but Florida looks to have hit a home run with their 2025 skill position signees. Not only did Wilson go off, but Vernell Brown III, Naeshaun Montgomery, Duke Clark, Ty Jackson, and Hylton Stubbs all stood out today.
THUMBS DOWN: Despite putting up over 400 yards of offense, the second-string offensive line looked incredibly leaky overall.
HOT TAKE: The main takeaway today, pray for DJ Lagway‘s good health. While keeping in mind that Harrison Bailey drew the short end of the stick with his surrounding cast (outside of Dallas Wilson), if the goal is the playoffs, none of these quarterbacks look like a capable replacement if Lagway is out for an extended period of time at any point in the season.
THE BOTTOM LINE: One paragraph after a hot take based on their play during the spring game, I am going to caution you not to put too much stock in what happened during today’s spring game. Some of those big plays, the Jackson long touchdown in particular, it didn’t look like there was much of a killer instinct from the defense. My best guess would be that the staff instructed them to get players on the ground, but pull back on the hard hitting to an extent. As a matter of fact, I don’t remember a lights-out type of hit all day, which is usually the case. Which is why you have to take a wait-and-see approach anytime an offensive skill position player has a big spring.
