Earlier this week Florida offered Sanford (Fla.) Seminole 2025 four-star offensive lineman Max Buchanan, who attended the Gators’ opening day win over Utah last September and then returned to the Swamp for the Orange and Blue Game back in the spring.

Besides UF, the 6-foot-4, 280-pounder also holds offers from Clemson, Florida State, LSU, Miami, Penn State, and others.

QUICK Q&A

Did you have a favorite college team (or player) growing up?
“I didn’t really have a college team growing up. Maybe Mars Hill because my parents played and met there.”

Out of your early offers is there one or two that really caught your attention? A ‘wow’ moment?
“I guess out of the early offers one ‘wow’ moment was when Penn State offered because I was a freshman, and it was my first Power 5 offer.”

How did the Florida offer come about? Who did you communicate with and what did they have to say to you?
“Florida’s offer came today (Tuesday). I wasn’t expecting it. Coach [Darnell] Stapelton called me right when I got out of school and was heading to practice.”

You visited Florida back in the spring. What was that visit like? What was the highlight?
“I really liked the Spring visit. I was up there for the Utah game during the season too. I’ve pretty much always had good communication with the Florida coaches. The facilities are definitely top-notch at Florida. They’ve always made a good impression on me.”

You visited Florida last year for the Utah game What was that experience like in the Swamp?
“That night at the Utah game was crazy. It was packed. It was an awesome win. The crowd was nuts the whole time.”

You went to Miami in late July. What was that visit like?
“Miami was really nice. They had a pool party. I went off the high dive.”

Do you have any plans to see any schools for a game this fall?
“Yes,
I plan on taking a bunch of trips this season for sure. I’m trying to get to Florida State, Miami, LSU, Clemson, Ole Miss, Auburn, Georgia, and definitely Florida for a game. I’m still trying to figure out how to make the travel arrangements around my team schedule though.”

It’s still early, but do you have any leaders or are there a couple of programs that you know will be there until the very end for whatever reason?
“I think there are some programs that are edging out some of the others, but it’s way too early to say for sure. I mean I’ve already seen some schools that have offered me have completely new coaching staffs.”

What’s going to be important to you when you make your choice?
“I think most important for me is just finding out where I fit it best at with the offensive scheme. Being able to get real playing time. And where I feel like my next football family is going to be.”

Buchanan is the No. 286 rated prospect in the nation according to the On3 Consensus.
