Though at the time he was committed to Georgia, Hyattsville (M.D.) DeMatha Catholic four-star Tovani Mizell was included in our early February 10 2024 out-of-state prospects the Gator Nation needs to know for two good reasons. First, he is originally from Florida. Second, he is related to current Florida football player Aiden Mizell.
Two months after that list was published, the 6-foot-1, 190-pounder has decommitted from the Bulldogs and spent the weekend in Gainesville.
QUICK Q&A
Who came on the visit with you? “My family came with me. It was my dad, mom, brother and sister.”
What was the visit like as far as what all took place? “I got to the facility around 10:15 a.m. First I got measurements done, then went to take pictures and after that we went to watch practice. After practice, we had lunch and then a campus tour and then met with coaches. We left around 6:30 p.m. after meeting with Coach [Jabar] Juluke.”
What coaches did you speak with? “I spent a lot of time with Coach Juluke. I spoke with Coach [Billy] Napier at the end of practice and I have been in constant contact with Coach [Jay] Bateman. Their message to me was come be a part of something great!”
What was the highlight of the visit? “The highlight of the day was when Aiden [Mizell] took the top off [the defense] and caught a touchdown pass during the scrimmage.”
Speaking of your cousin Aiden, what was it like seeing him out there at practice? “It was great seeing Aiden! He did a really good job at practice. His family made a special trip to come meet with us and we hung out for a little bit.”
You and Aiden are both known for your speed. Who would win in a 40 and a 100-meter race? “(Laughing) That would be a great race! I might have a faster 40, but he probably would get me in the 100m because he has good long range speed from running the 400m.”
What are your thoughts on the new football facility? What stood out? “I think the new facility is amazing! The best thing about it is how the indoor field is connected to the weight room.”
Did you have a chance to interact with any of the players? What did you think of practice? “I spent most of my time observing and the only player I talked to was Aiden. We had a chance to chop it up a little bit. I thought practice was great. I loved the up tempo, style and energy.”
What is your impression of Florida after the visit? “This last visit showed me a lot about the program and staff. Florida has definitely moved up on my board.”
Do you know of any programs that will get an official visit from you? “I am working on my official visit schedule now.”
You were at one time committed to Georgia, but now you’re back on the market. Do you have a new leaderboard or some teams that you know are going to be there until the end? “My recruitment is open and I am still checking out schools.”
When it comes time to make your decision, what will be important to you? “One of the most important factors for me in making my final decision is the running back room and the relationship I have with the coaches.”
Mizell is the No. 317 ranked prospect in the nation according to On3.
