Gardendale (Ala.) four-star defensive lineman Kelby Collins‍ went on his first official visit this past weekend with a trip to Gainesville (Fla.) to see the University of Florida.

Inside the Gators caught up with the 6-foot-5, 280-pounder for his thoughts on the visit, his plans going forward, and if there are any programs moving to the front of the pack.

  • Collins is the No. 51 rated prospect in the nation according to the On3 Consensus.
  • His younger brother, Drew Collins, is a 6-foot-3, 225-pound Class of 2024 tight end – who is beginning to get looks from Power 5 programs.
  • Out of his fellow visitors, he said that he hung out with four-star linebacker Grayson ‘Pup’ Howard the most, along with current players Scooby Williams and Chief Borders.
  • Collins will go to South Carolina this coming weekend (June 10th) and then take a weekend off before going to Georgia on June 24th.
  • He said that he has been invited back, and he plans on returning, for Florida’s Friday Night Lights Camp in July, at which time he said that they will be able to show the prospects in attendance what the new football facility will look like in its almost completed state.

Overall take on the official visit: “My visit went well, I think everyone came together and made it a great visit for me and my family. Also, I know all the other recruits had a good time too. So, it was a good time spending time with the players and other recruits.”

What his host Scooby Williams told him about the new staff: “I think he likes this staff more [than the previous one]. I think he feels more connected to them and he knows that the head coach has a real plan for him.”

His main takeaway after the visit: “Right now Florida has kind of set the bar, so I’m looking forward to my other experiences at these other schools. It was just me having a lot of fun, interacting with a lot of people. The energy here was through the roof the whole time, so I feel like that was really the key.”

Thoughts on Florida’s new football facility and football player housing: “I toured the new facility and it’s going to be one of the top facilities in the nation, I feel like. It’s huge and we did a virtual tour of the new housing, and it’s super nice. Florida is on the come up.”

Who stands out at this point: “Georgia, Alabama, and Florida right now and South Carolina is in the mix a little bit. That would be the top four. I feel like they’ll all be there until the end, they’ll all have an equal chance.”

While campus tours are normally conducted on golf carts, Collins said that he found it fun, and interesting, that the visitors were able to tour the campus on a scooter along with their player/host. The visitors, hosts, and some staff members (one took a fall before even getting started, but wasn’t hurt), all went out together.
