This past Saturday Dallas (Tx.) Jesuit 2020 running back EJ Smith‍, the son of Gators legend Emmitt Smith, visited the University of Florida to see UF take on the LSU Tigers.

"The visit was great, I enjoyed the game and the people.” said the four-star rated Smith. “It was nice coming back to see my family too. My cousin plays on this team, so it was nice."

Though his father Emmitt is revered at Florida, that in itself won't be the deciding factor for the son.

"No not really," Smith replied when asked if there was a nostalgic feeling associated with coming to Florida. "You know this process is all about me. Whatever I think he will be fine with it."

Other than visiting Florida, Smith said he is also in contact with several Gators' coaches.

"I probably talk to Coach [Dan] Mullen, Coach [Billy] Gonzales, and Coach [Greg] Knox the most. Our relationship is getting strong. Other than that, we not only talk about just football, we talk about things outside of football."

Smith said that since the return of Mullen he has seen improvement from Florida offensively. However, that isn't enough to elevate the Gators to the top of the board.

He is hearing not only from Florida, but also from the likes of Georgia, Ohio State, Southern Cal and Texas A&M.

All of those programs and others are still in contention to land his services

"I am keeping up with every school really, you know. Florida is included, but every school right now is on the radar for me."

Smith said that at this time he is more focused on his high school season than he is on the recruiting process.
