"I started recently hating linebackers,” running back Adarius Lemons laughingly, but seriously answers.

It was something he discovered less than a week into fall camp and it’s created a mindset that Florida Gators head coach Dan Mullen has been hoping to inspire in his team.

Mullen has encouraged competition in every aspect of his program.

Good insights!

Do you know what the 8 groups are? Assuming one is the RB vs LB. Does the OL go verse to DL?

How is this different than what the other staff was doing?

Oh sorry I didn't clarify that well. That was just part of the narrative about Mullen encouraging competition. So the 8 groups are teams. 8 guys were voted to a leadership council by their teammates and then those 8 picked guys to be on their "team". They couldn't pick all guys from their unit and had to pick some guys they didn't normally hang out with so it forced them to interact with everyone. Those teams then get points based on how guys did in practice, workouts, in class, being respectful to staff, etc. At the end of the week whichever team has the most points wins. The winning team, one week for example, got to go out for a steak dinner while the losing teams went and did community service. During the season the winning team for the week might get to pick the movie the see as a team Friday night, etc. It's just a way to encourage competition out of more than just their position, get them to interact with new guys, etc.
