"We have to change the recruiting process somehow and make sure that us Gators are up there in the top five in recruiting, and that’s really how you go about that, having really super teams every year." - Steve Spurrier, 2019

After narrowing his list to a final two of Florida and South Carolina, Melbourne (Fla.) Viera four-star defensive lineman Jamari Lyons will make his announcement on Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. on CBS Sports.
Though Florida looked to be the leader throughout much of the process, according to the 6-foot-4, 290-pounder, making the decision was harder than he expected.
“Since they're both not having that great of a season, it kind of made it harder to pick between the two,” said Lyons. “Florida is home. South Carolina, I love the environment, their staff, and everything. They going in a good direction.”
Lyons said that in the end how the official visits went played a part in his choice.
“What really stood out between the two schools on the official visit was how me and my family were treated on the visit,” explained Lyons. “Florida really came to us with open arms. Plus, my mom and grandma really enjoyed their time. I was glad to see a smile on their faces.”
While those who follow recruiting will find out his choice this afternoon, he said that he has already informed the winning coaching staff of his decision.
“Yes, I already let the team I'm going to know,” said Lyons.
Lyons first stepped into the spotlight back in the summer of 2019 when he made Inside the Gators list of five prospects to keep an eye on after camping with UF as a freshman.
Then in late August, he came in at No. 7 on ITG's list of the 10 Most Wanted Targets.

When he visited Florida over the summer, both officially and unofficially, he made it clear that the Gators were the team to beat, but Ohio State was still lurking as a possibility.
However, regardless of whether or not the Buckeyes extend an offer or try to get him on campus, Lyons said his decision today is final.
“This is the end of my recruitment,” said Lyons.
Lyons is the No. 352 ranked prospect in the nation according to the 247 Sports Composite.
