The fact that Buford (Ga.) three-star athlete Isaiah Bond‍ announced his commitment to Florida today isn't by accident.

The 6-foot, 170-pounder said that he wanted to commit to the Gators on Mother's Day as a way to honor the part his mother has played in his development as a person and player.

“A big reason I committed today is because of Mother’s Day,” explained Bond. “This is for my mother. I want to make this day special for her as she has loved, supported, and pushed me throughout my entire life. My mom was my first coach and still continues to coach me in school, sports, and in life situations.”

According to Bond, not only did he commit today in order to honor his mother, she took part in the decision-making process which led him to Florida.

“She and my family are all on board and helped me through this process. She feels like it is the best option after we reviewed all my options. My mom is very thorough."

Bond originally told Inside the Gators of his June commitment plans in an update last month. Though he was blown away by the offer from Florida, at that time the Gators had some catching up to do.

The Gators had ground to make up, but obviously, they were able to do just that.

“It was a very hard decision,” said Bond. “My mom and I did an in-depth review of my top seven schools. We laid it out on a spreadsheet and assigned numerical values. Even my feelings and opinion towards the college had a weight, the relationship with the coaches, and many, many other things.”

Yes, he is committed and scheduled to officially visit Florida on June 1st, but he will also still take his other official visits as well.

“Coach understands that these visits were already scheduled and said he supports me if I take the visits. So, I will take a few official visits.”

Bond is the No. 571 rated prospect in the nation according to the 247 Sports Composite. He is rated as a four-star by 247 Sports, holds a 78 rating on ESPN, but is only rated as a 5.5 by Rivals.

The Inside Scoop: This is big news for Florida in that they were not only able to come in late and take a kid coveted by other major powers, with a sub 10.5 100m to his credit, but he will also add some much-needed speed to the Florida offense.
