As a rule, unless it is a special circumstance, Inside the Gators doesn’t do features on prospects more than a year and a half before they can actually sign. It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to churn out articles on kids who realistically won’t be top targets down the road.

Normally, Florida will offer anywhere between 250-to-300 prospects in order to sign 20-25 players per cycle. There is only mutual interest when they have already visited or have a firm date in mind to visit campus. Otherwise, it’s best to follow at a distance and not get too overly attached just because an offer was extended.

With that in mind, while we won’t write an article, we will begin doing Class of 2023 Prospect Profiles with quick Q&As on top kids who have received offers.

  • 6-foot-3, 285-pound New Bern (N.C.) defensive tackle Keith Sampson‍  ‍

What Florida coach did you speak with when they offered? And what did they say to you?

“I spoke with Coach [Tim] Brewster and he said that he liked how I play physical.”

What did it mean to you to receive an offer from the Gators?

“The offer means a lot to me because it’s Florida and they have a strong football program.”

Are there any college football teams you followed closely growing up?

“I grew up watching Oregon just because I like their uniforms.”

Is there a particular college or pro player you look up to or try to model your game after?

“I try to model my game after Aaron Donald, Mean Joe Greene, and Chase Young.”

Are there any programs you plan on visiting when the dead period ends in June?

“I plan on taking visits to all the schools [that have offered].”
