Safety signee Donovan McMillon‍ has been everywhere for Florida’s 2021 class, whether it’s publicly helping recruit or having fellow signees laud his welcoming attitude. The Pennsylvania native looks to make a splash in Gainesville both as a player and a leader as soon as he early enrolls.

Neither one should be an issue for McMillon, given his convincing tape and sunny disposition. You’ve already seen some of the player, but find out more about the person in this edition of Getting to Know.

FOOTBALL/RECRUITING

Take us through the process that led to your commitment. What was that experience like for you?
“Well, Florida came in pretty late. They were my second-to-last offer. Coach [Keiwan] Ratliff texted and asked if it was too late to come in, and I said no, because everybody deserved a fair shot. So then I got on FaceTime with Coach [Dan] Mullen, and he told me how much he could use me in the defense. Then I met Coach [Ron] English, Coach [Todd] Grantham, really the whole staff hit me up. They were in constant communication, even though I had never met them before. So when it came time to commit, my family was singling out schools and Florida had the most. The academics are so strong and they’re in the SEC, which is the best conference and playing there gives me the best chance to make it to the NFL. Also, my Dad grew up down there in Orlando. So many things there that caught my eye.”

Which school came in second for you?
“I didn’t really have a second school. I had a top-five, but Florida really took off for me. I was learning toward Virginia Tech in the Spring and I was leaning toward A&M for a while. I was really thinking about Oregon, it’s just really far, and also Oklahoma.”

Do you have an interesting story about Dan Mullen that you can tell me?
“The first time I was on FaceTime with him, we found out his wife used to live five minutes from us [in Pennsylvania]. She grew up in Saint Clair, which is my school’s (Peters Township) rival team, that we play every year for football.”

What would you say are some of your greatest strengths as a football player?
“I’m a leader on and off the field. I’m a playmaker, and I’m versatile. I’m able to come down and make tackles well and cover receivers well.”

Who is the prospect that you have talked to the most from the Class of 2021?
“I’ve talked to most of them to be honest. One of the things I wanted to do was become close with them because I am coming from a distance.”

”I’d buy my mom a car. A Mercedes sports car.”

What is one item that you cannot live without it? Why?
”I can’t live without my phone, to be honest. I also can’t live without football. And my family, but I’m going to Florida, so.”

Who has been the biggest role model for you in your life? Why?
”Probably my dad. He’s coached me and been the greatest dad I could possibly have. Not just with football – he was a football player too – but he really built me into the man I am today. He’s so excited. Probably the most excited for me out of anyone.”

What are your favorite types of music? Do you have a favorite artist or song?

”Skydiving.”
”Playing in the NFL.”
”Live a safe, healthy life with kids.”

What is one thing about you that the Gator Nation would be surprised to find out about?
