It was a year ago this week that Vero Beach (Fla.) four-star defensive end Keanu Koht‍ first started to emerge on the recruiting scene when he was a standout at Florida's first June Summer Camp Session of 2019.

Though Florida didn't offer at that camp session, the Gators did pull the trigger after he attended Friday Night Lights.

Over the last year, he has received offers from not only Florida, but Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, and many others.

"Everything hit me fast," said Koht. "Sometimes it's hectic receiving a ton of calls and texts daily. I try to get back to everyone because I was raised to treat everyone with respect no matter how I feel and never limit myself. I was blessed to be put into this position, but it’s never gone to my head. I’m still the kid I was before it all. I work hard, inspire others, mentor local kids in elementary, and do my all to leave the largest impact possible on everyone I can while I’m in a position to do so."

Koht originally planned on committing on May, 6 but then decided that he wanted more time.

"I wanted to visit a few schools before making a decision," said Koht.

This week he made one of those visits when he virtually visited Florida.

"The virtual visit was great," said Koht. "I did it with my mother, and she loved everything they had to say as well. I’m excited to see where the Lord takes me with this process. Remaining humble and working hard through this. I would say I have a personal relationship with their staff so it went well. Florida has been recruiting me for a while, they were one of the first major SEC schools to recruit me heavily from the jump. I know the majority of the recruits they’re going for as well. I met Khris Bogle and [Jeremiah] Moon while doing the virtual visit. They're both cool guys, I’m a Florida boy. It’s inevitable that we get along. They spoke highly of the school, highlighting the academic side of things and their first-hand process experiences."

It isn't just the Florida players who have made an impact on Koht. He also speaks regularly with multiple staff members.

"I speak to Coach [Todd] Grantham, [Christian] Robinson, and [Dan] Mullen the most," said Koht. "But, Florida has recruited me with the whole staff pretty much. I’ve been there many times, so I have an exceptional feel for UF."

That visit helped cement Florida's place inside Koht's current top five.

"A ton of schools have been recruiting me hard but I can really see myself playing for these five schools. LSU, Florida, Auburn, Alabama, and Oregon," said Koht. 'There's no order as of now, so yet I have those top five schools but I still talk with other schools because I’ve yet to know 100% what school will be my new home."

With life slowly returning to normal, Koht is starting to think about how he will handle the process going forward.

When asked if he has any official visits he knows of for sure, he replied, "Not yet. I'm waiting to see how this dead period affects everything. I want to decide before December because I plan to early enroll. Only the Lord knows how this will play out for me. I'm taking it as it comes."

Koht is the No. 239 rated prospect in the nation according to the 247 Sports Composite.
