THREE-PART SERIES: FORMER FIVE-STARS WITH AN ASTERISK

Ever since he committed to Florida State back in April, Florida has started picking up the pace in recruiting Ocala (Fla.) Trinity Catholic three-star lineman Jake Slaughter‍.

After offering him earlier this month, the Gators hosted him on a 'virtual visit' on Wednesday.

Slaughter shared his impressions of the visit.

“We started out with the whole staff and my family was all there,” said Slaughter. “We mostly talked about the culture that they were building and the new facility. We talked with the strength staff, nutrition staff, and the player development leader.”

According to Slaughter, he spoke mostly with Dan Mullen, John Hevesy, and Greg Knox during the conference call.

However, there was an added benefit.

As was the case with Jeremiah Williams during his Tuesday 'virtual visit' – Florida once again had several current players log on to the conference as well.

“Talked with Michael Tarquin, Richie Leonard, Riley Simonds, and Ethan White,” said Slaughter. “We just talked about player life and the early enrollment process.”

Though he has been on campus several times, Slaughter is still in the early stages of building a relationship with the Florida coaches. He said that Wednesday's tour helped serve that purpose.

“The highlight of the visit was just continuing building the connection with the whole staff,” said Slaughter. “Coach Mullen just talked about the culture he was building and how I should make the best decision for me. He would love for me to come visit when I get the chance to.”

Despite Florida's all-out push for him, Slaughter said he remains firm in his pledge to the Gators' in-state rival.

“I’m committed to Florida State University,” was Slaughter's reply when asked about his status.

However, there may be a crack in which Florida can get a foot in the door.

“I’m interested in Florida for sure,” said Slaughter. “The visit went great and we have a good connection.”

Slaughter is the No. 629 rated prospect in the nation according to the 247 Sports Composite.
