With eight days remaining until national signing day, the Florida Gators are preparing to conclude their work for the 2020 recruiting class. Part of their plans involves four-star Manor (Tx.) defensive end Princely Umanmielen‍.

The No. 243 recruit in the nation was welcomed to Gainesville over the weekend for an official visit. It was his first time visiting the city.

Though Florida’s defensive line class is robust, Umanmielen’s frame offers coaching staffs the potential to mold the strongside defensive end into their ideal prospect. Within Florida, the 6-foot-4, 249-pound recruit has the potential to become a disruptive defensive end.

“I like their defense and they pulled up some film and showed me, and I think I can fit well in that type of defense,” Umanmielen said. “They said I would be a straight end, but if they had any mismatches that I could move inside. They showed me film from 92 [Jabari Zuniga] and 17 [Zach Carter]."

With 247 Sports describing Umanmielen as a relentless athlete who doesn’t give up on plays with the versatility to play in multiple fronts, head coach Dan Mullen lept at the opportunity to see him again, scheduling a home visit for Monday.

While in Gainesville, Umanmielen was hosted by junior defensive tackle Kyree Campbell. While with the players, he was given an opportunity to learn about what it’s like to play football at the collegiate level.

“They were saying how last year in camp, they were tired because they had no depth,” Umanmielen said. “[They said] it’s just a great place and that there’s a chance they could win a national championship.”

Umanmielen says Auburn, Baylor, Florida, and Texas are his final schools as signing day decision approaches; Auburn will be the final school he visits before he makes his decision.

Though the distance is not a concern, he did say that his parents would be more comfortable if he were to attend a school closer to their home. Ultimately, Umanmielen says that before he makes a decision, he will speak with his parents to make a decision as a family.

With Mullen’s expected visit this week, it remains to be seen if the coach can change Umanmielen’s parents’ thoughts about the 1,002 miles separating Manor from Gainesville.

“They don’t really feel any type of way,“ he said about his parents’ opinions about Florida. “They’d rather I stay closer.”
