Here on Florida’s last big recruiting visit weekend of the 2020 cycle, the Gators will play host to eight official visitors.

OFFICIAL VISITORS

Damarkcus Beckwith‍

Tight End

The Skinny:  This went from a three-team All SEC East race of Florida, Kentucky and Tennessee to just a two-team race between the Gators and Volunteers. If there is a high school visitor who goes public with a commitment this weekend, Beckwith is the most likely candidate. The question is, after seeing UT and now visiting UF, will this be the end of it or will another team swoop in late for that final official visit weekend?  Oregon just offered this week.

Recruiting Wire: Ducks offer Florida target

Marc Britt‍

Safety

The Skinny: I don’t have the exact numbers available, but when a committed prospect doesn’t sign during the early period, I would say that it turns out to be 50-50 as to whether or not they stick with their pledge - partly because what normally happens is that new teams begin showing interest. That has happened here with Ole Miss and LSU coming on board to join Florida and Miami. Britt was a late addition to this weekend’s visitor list when he informed Inside the Gators on Wednesday he was coming in this weekend.

Another thing to look at here is if Florida were to land Avantae Williams‍ to go with their other committed safeties, could Britt come in at his favored position of wide receiver?

Recruiting Wire: Four-star Britt will visit

Ashaad Clayton‍

Running Back
The Skinny: Normally you would love Florida’s chances of flipping a Colorado commit from the southeast, but Buffalos head coach Mel Tucker has deep recruiting ties in the region and has done a great job utilizing them. Had Clayton visited this weekend along with high school teammate Sedrick Van Pran‍ - you could feel better about the Gators chances. However, with Van Pran visiting Georgia, where he is committed, this weekend. it is hold your breath time to see if he even makes next week’s trip to Gainesville.

Jahmyr Gibbs‍

Running Back
The Skinny:  Florida’s last chance at getting an upper-tier high school back this cycle lies in the staff’s ability to flip Gibbs from Georgia Tech. On the surface, you would normally like those odds, but don’t underestimate the Rambling Wreck. He has been solid with them despite interest from programs such as Florida, LSU and Ohio State. The fact that they get the last shot by hosting him next weekend is problematic.

Avery Helm‍

Cornerback
The Skinny: Basically, there is nothing to see here. Helm signed in the early signing period and is locked in. He was actually supposed to have visited back in December, but his high school team was still in the playoffs.

Justin Shorter‍

Wide Receiver

The Skinny:  Though believe me I have tried over and over again, I have never actually spoken with him . However, by all indications, he is Florida’s to lose and visited campus right after Christmas while the team was in south Florida for the Orange Bowl.

WCC: Shorter is on campus

Princely Umanmielen‍

Defensive End
The Skinny: While Florida has actually been on his top five list for a while now, the Gators have always been seen as a program pulling up the rear of those five with the common denominator that the in-state schools (Texas and then Baylor) have held the lead. After visiting the Longhorns (where he was once committed) last week, the Gators get their shot. I have communicated with him a couple of times, but he plays things close to the vest. I would guess it is going to take him being blown away for UF to pull him this far east.

Avantae Williams‍

Safety

The Skinny:  Going back to last spring, even through the period when has committed to Oregon, this has been a Florida-Georgia battle. The Gators led early on and then Bulldogs took a lead for a few months before UF went back out in-front. I still believe that the Gators are the team to beat, but they will have to sweat out that official visit to Athens next weekend.

If next weekend is the last possible weekend recruits could visit, why wouldn't we push for them to visit next weekend instead? Why allow the kids to have another opportunity to visit after their trip to Gainesville?

There are positives and negatives. Perhaps Florida nails down a kid or two and convinces them not to make that last trip next weekend. Or perhaps the team that gets that last visit makes the last best impression and gets the kid.

Sometimes though it isn't your decision to make as a coach. Gibbs is committed to Georgia Tech and they've had that last visit weekend set for a while, so you take him when you can get him.

Also, next Saturday is Florida's Jr. Day, and you want your coaches and support staff concentrating on those kids.
