A week after their Sunshine Showdown victory, Florida played host to several prospects taking their official visit this past weekend. Long committed to the Gators, Gainesville (Fla.) Eastside dual-threat quarterback, and four-star prospect, Anthony Richardson‍ made the short trip to campus to get a final glimpse at what his future has in store.

That future does not appear to be too far off, as the No. 190 prospect in the nation, according to the 247 Sports Composite, is expected to begin practices with the team this Friday, barring any unforeseen setbacks.

“I finish my exams up this Tuesday, so if everything is lined up and submitted on time, then I can participate in practice. Possibly Friday on practice,” Richardson said. “I think it’s great, and I get to get here early and learn the basics of everything. I am just ready to get here and ready to learn.”

Richardson is Gators head coach Dan Mullen’s third committed quarterback prospect since arriving at Florida, after Emory Jones (class of 2018) and Jalon Jones (class of 2019).

It’s a position group the coach has had no issues developing. Through the addition of Richardson, the No. 5 dual-threat passer in the nation has an opportunity to learn the offense sooner than his counterparts, and Mullen finds another player meets the criteria of his ideal signal-caller.

“I just talked with Coach Mullen, and he just told me to trust the process. He said there will be a lot of naysayers and people saying things that may be the truth or may not be the truth,” Richardson said. “He said just trust the process, and if things go my way, then it will be just how it’s supposed to be.”

The coaching staff also did what they could to highlight how the 6-foot-4, 224-pound quarterback could prosper in their offense. According to Richardson, he and the coaches compared film to illustrate their similarities.

“I am not trying to compare myself to Emory [Jones], but I can basically just saying I can do a lot of the things he can do. He’s athletic, and he can throw,” Richardson said. “He’s a quarterback that can run and throw, and I see myself fitting in just like him and doing the same things he’s done.”

With his heart rooted home throughout his recruiting process, the Gainesville native remained excited at the end of his visit.

“It was a little different, but not that much because I am always here,” he said. “It’s just right around the corner from the house, but I did go more in-depth and got to see more about the school. That was the only real difference. Just being here and learning more about the school makes me more excited about coming here.”

Though a competitive rivalry may brew between the two, Richardson spoke nothing but compliments when speaking of Jones, who was his player host over the weekend.

“It was like hanging around my big brother,” Richardson said. “It was fun. He said he loves it here, and he’s trusting the process too. He told me not to come in expecting things to be easy. He said some things are difficult and to trust the process.”

With his own recruiting process over, Richardson took advantage of his time with uncommitted defensive end prospects, Morven Joseph‍ and Donell Harris‍, to pry their attention from competing programs.

“We talked to them a couple of times, and we try not to be too much with it. I talked to them to see where their head was at. I feel like we are pretty close with both, but it’s tough to tell whether or not they are going to commit,” Richardson said.

The early enrolee intends to put pen to paper Dec. 18 to officially sign with Florida.

“[I’m] Just ready to be officially a Gator,” he said.
