Today's Take: Trying to make sense of the Steele mess

May 9, 2019

Nothing is ever as good as it seems. Nothing is ever as bad as it seems.

After the Florida Gators finished the 2018 season with 10 wins and New Years Six win, they capped it with a Top 10 recruiting class and seemed on top of the world. But nothing is ever good as it seems.

The offseason has officially kicked off with what seems like wave after wave of bad news for the Gators, stemming from a sexual assault allegation against freshman quarterback Jalon Jones and the subsequent addition of the classes top rated recruit Chris Steele to the transfer portal.

Today's Take: Trying to make sense of the Steele mess

Any chance you see that the coaches can make this right?

Very well articulated, Kassidy. Its easy to Monday morning Quarterback this situation ...myself included. But the truth very well could be the only bad person in all this was Jones. At least I'm hoping that's how it plays out.

Hindsight is 20/20 and if Jones never does something beyond idiotic, or for that matter, if Steele had not walked in when he did* putting him in the police report thanks to the peripheral location, then this most likely isn't an issue, at least in this way. Although who's to say Steele wouldn't have gotten homesick and still looked to move back West.

*I am grateful he walked in though, since reading the report it sounds like that defused the situation and saved the young lady from being further traumatized.
Help me out with this part....in the report, she said she was having consensual sex with Jones and it wasn't until they walked in that she wanted to stop (which makes sense)...so him walking in didn't stop anything....in fact you could argue had they not walked in there would have been no issue at all.

Other than that, I think your points are valid...we simply do not have enough information to really know for sure who is at fault and maybe it is a bit of both...buyers remorse from Steele and not acting fast enough on Mullen...
---Go Gators!

Hope he decides to come back but it sounds like being homesick might be the biggest issue! Thanks
