Florida Gators freshman corner Chris Steele is reportedly set to transfer from the Gators program.

The news has been brewing since Wednesday night but confirmation didn’t come until Thursday morning when Steele reportedly put his name into the NCAA transfer portal.

Steele’s name was mentioned in a recent incident involving freshman quarterback Jalon Jones who was accused of sexual battery, however Steele’s name was mentioned primarily as Jones roomate and sources tell Inside the Gators this development has nothing to do with Steele’s possible involement in the Jones incident of which Steele is only related to peripherally. Jones put his name into the portal following the police report meaning Steele the second to leave from the class.

Steele was the highest rated recruit in the Gators 2019 class and enrolled early this January. He was consistantly one of the best performers during spring ball and was expected to see significant playing time this fall albeit behind starters Marco Wilson and CJ Henderson. Steele received extra reps this spring with Wilson recovering from an ACL injury and impressed during those times.

A native of California, Steele originally picked the Gators over USC and Oregon.
