Inside the Gators: Mock Signing Class 3.0

May 2, 2019

As of today there are exactly nine months remaining until National Signing Day 2020. What the class will look like on that day, no one knows for sure. We can however draw some conclusions as to what it would look like if today were Signing Day

This class would yield 17 Recruits with a total score of 269.04, which would be good enough for a 13-15 Ranked class....but it would also have about 6-8 open spots. Interestingly, even with only 17 recruits, that 269.04 rating would yield a better ranked class (higher Blue Chip 76.5% and overall class average of 92.95) than any class under the Mac era, in spite of them being full classes.
  • 2014 was 267.40 @ 89.61
  • 2015 was 227.46 @ 87.26 (transition class)
  • 2016 was 260.96 @ 88.72
  • 2017 was 251.23 @ 89.11
  • 2018 was 259.56 @ 90.75 (transition class)
  • 2019 was 276.85 @ 91.06

Obviously, Coach Mac is not the "standard" for what you want to compare our recruiting goals to, but it does say that Mullen and crew have up'ed the game and it will be interesting to see if they can get the 2020 Class in to that 280-285 range...starting from the above 269.04 (17 recruits) if we were to add SIX 3* recruits (total class of 23) that could up that total score to the 278-283 range which would be a #6 ranked class in 2019.

Normally...I would be in full panic mode about trends and positioning of our class (as I was last year), but I've just come to the realization that I don't think this staff can recruit at that "great" level (classes in the 4-7 range)....having said that, this 2020 class is in a much better spot than the 2019 class was at this point a year ago and that class (2019) ended up much better than many of of thought it would....If this staff can close strong, like they did last year, they have a real shot at getting this class to challenge for a #5 ranking (which I know will not be "good enough" for some) and that would exceed my expectations.

Linebacker - What is the issue here? I realized that we got a few good ones last year, but so do all the other programs....why are we not making headway here given the lack of production, urgent need, and opportunity to compete early...should be a slam dunk!

Safety - seems to be in the same position as linebacker....huge need for us and we are not really getting any elite talent as a major area of need.

I'm sure the staff is going to close at least 2-3 at linebacker to take half the spots above....but it is a crying shame that we do not have high caliber talent further up on our boards....

So much for me thinking that the longer Bowman waits, the better it is for Florida.

This is, and should be a tough pill for Florida to swallow. This is a big loss no matter how you spin it.
