On Saturday, four-star receiver Trey Knox‍ (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) visited the University of Florida’s campus for the ninth time during his recruitment process.

The freakishly athletic receiver is being recruited by this coaching staff hard and Knox had the opportunity to speak with the coaches. Knox described his talk with the Florida staff.

“Just to come back down here. This is home and come play in The Swamp. They’re looking for receivers to make plays and they need receivers. That’s the big jest of what they were saying.

Florida rode a 31-game win streak over Kentucky heading into Saturday’s game. Despite the streak ending, Knox enjoyed and was impressed by the atmosphere inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

“You know, it was great to get back down here for a game with the new staff. I came down here a couple months ago and really connected with coach [Dan] Mullen. Just coming out here and seeing the atmosphere was really amazing. The fans stuck behind their team until the end. A few questionable calls, but we won’t get into that.”

The questionable call came in the third quarter, when Evan McPherson appeared to make a field goal, but the judges on the field disagreed. Calling the kick no-good. This ensued a frenzy of boos to reign down from the fans were several minutes. Knox described what he saw from the South endzone stands.

“I was so heated. I see the ball go over the post and in. I was like ‘alright, it’s good’. Then, they said it wasn’t and it made me mad. So, I stood up and was yelling. Then, the replay came up and everyone saw it and it was terrible. They were hosing us.”

Knox, who is a familiar in Gainesville, described his love for the campus and the city as a whole which could ultimately help Florida land his commitment.

“Definitely the love. This was my first offer at 14. So, just being the first offer is very big in my opinion. Just the people in my circle that went here and loved it. So, that’s opened my eyes. I think I have love for this town, this city, and the people in this city.”

There’s a reason Knox keeps visiting Gainesville and his relationship with the coaches is benefiting the Gators. Knox described his communication with the coaches and his thoughts on receiver's coach Billy Gonzales.

“Just definitely hitting my phone. We text a lot. Me and coach Gonzalez talk about what he can do in developing receivers. You know, because he’s had a bunch of receivers go to the league. I think that’s really big in a receiver's coach. We talk on the phone all the time. I think they keep staying on my phone and they keep staying in my mind. We just constantly communicate.”

Florida’s not the only SEC program chasing for Knox’ commitment, as in-state Tennessee is fighting hard for his pledge. The 6-foot-4 receiver noted he’ll be taking an official visit to Rocky Top on September 22nd to see the Vols and Gators square off. Knox also mentioned he may take his official visit to Florida next weekend for Colorado State.

It was evident Knox enjoyed his time in Gainesville and when asked how he’d rate his visit, he gave an exciting answer for Gators fans.

“10 out of 10. Always.”

Florida continues to be a the top and it’ll be interesting to see this process pan out.
