Four-star Alabama commit to attend Florida's spring game

Lakeland (Fla.) Kathleen four-star safety Brendan Gant‍ committed to Alabama just before Christmas of last year. Though that pledge remains in place, he said that isn't keeping him from exploring his other options.

“I'm committed, but still keeping an open mind,” said Gant. “Things can change, coaches can leave, so I can't be locked in and not do what's best for me. At the end of the day my final decision is what's best for my future.”

Along those lines he is keeping tabs on in-state programs Florida and Florida State.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder will see the Gators in action in two weeks.

“I plan on going to Florida on April 14 for their spring game,” said Gant. “I talk to coach [Larry] Scott. He tells me that he wants me to come in and be an impact player.”

When asked what he hopes to learn about the Orange & Blue while on his visit, Gant replied, “They were so slack last year, I want to see more energy and better results.”

Gant said that he also hears from the Seminoles as well.

“Coach Odell [Haggins] tells me the same thing he's been saying since my ninth grade year. He wants the home town players to come to Tally and play for Seminoles.”

In the past the Alabama staff has been reluctant to green light their commits taking visits to other programs. However, to this point Gant said it hasn't become an issue.

“They said something to me one time, but they haven't brought it up since then.”

THE INSIDE SCOOP: Though he remains committed to Alabama, just listening to him and seeing his body language, this one is far from being over. Florida is in the picture here, but watch out for Florida State. Deion Sanders personally invited him to the Under Armour All-American Game and was playing up the Seminoles to him in plain site.
