Relationship with Spencer has Florida in good shape with four-star

Even without wearing pads, on what is perhaps the most physically imposing high school football team in the nation, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy four-star defensive lineman Will Norman‍ sticks out like a sore thumb while walking up and down the sidelines offering advice and handing out pointers to his fellow defenders during Thursday's spring scrimmage.

Though he is listed at 6-foot-3, 260-pounds on the roster handed out by IMG, he looks more like he goes in the 6-foot-5, 300-pound range, and carries that weight extremely well.

Because he was being held out for precautionary reasons, Norman didn't get to show out on the field for the Ascenders’ spring finale, but he was still fully engaged on the sidelines.

“It's always fun to get out here and get after it,” explained Norman. “I can't go because of my ankle, but if I can't go out there then I need to still be in the area, out here helping these young cats get better, pushing them to get after it. It's my turn to play the role of the big brother, showing them the ropes as I should.”

Now that spring ball is in the books, Norman will once again turn his attention to recruiting.

“The last few months I went to see Auburn, Florida, Texas A&M, Penn State, and Florida State and I definitely plan on taking some more this summer,” stated Norman. “I'll take some official and unofficial visits this summer. I don't have any setup as of now, but I'll be setting them up. I want to get to Baton Rouge, see what LSU is like and then go see USC or Oregon, one of them out there.”

Earlier this month Norman released a top five consisting of Florida, LSU, Michigan, Penn State and Texas A&M.

On Thursday he said the list remains intact.

With finalists from the south, southwest, and northeast and plans on heading out west for a visit, Norman doesn't appear as though he has limited himself to playing for a program in any one area in particular.

“I could go anywhere,” stated Norman. “I'm focusing on my relationships with coaches and who can develop me.”

When it comes to relationships, Norman pointed out the one he has with Florida defensive line coach Sean Spencer.

“We've got a pretty good relationship so far,” said Norman. “He's been very genuine with me. He's very down-to-earth toward me. We already have a great relationship, but we're trying to keep hacking at it.”

Speaking of Florida, earlier this month, after speaking with someone close to his recruiting process, Inside the Gators included Norman in our monthly Mock Class for the first time this cycle.

When asked about whether or not he is leaning to Florida, the big man smiled, and replied, “My teammate Knijeah Harris committed there, so I think that plays a part in it because he stays on me and I've visited up there and the University of Florida I would definitely say has a very comfortable feeling for me. When I'm up there it doesn't feel like recruiting, I feel I can be relaxed and laid back. I can definitely see myself there.”

That being said, do the Gators lead?

“I definitely want to go back to Florida, but I want to see my whole top five again this summer. I'm not sure if they'll all be official visits this summer or if I'll take some now and save some. I'm not saying there's a leader, but I definitely want to be committed before my season starts.”

Norman is the No. 123 rated prospect in the nation according to the On3 Consensus.

The Inside Scoop: He doesn’t want to come out and call Florida the leader, but as of today, I would stand by including him in the Mock Class back on May 3rd. IT will be interesting to see if a trip to USC and/or Oregon shakes up his list. He talked about Harris recruiting him to Florida, then 10 minutes later those two along with two other players were hanging out and then walked back to the IMG dorms together. I do think that Harris being in his ear helps UF, but I mocked him to the Gators before Harris committed.
