Spring Hot11: Top Florida performers

Apr 21, 2022 | 0 comments

Normally Inside the Gators puts together its Hot11 Poll of top performers by tallying the votes of staff members or a former player or two. However, since the media was only able to view small portions of practice this spring, instead we are relying on the votes and comments of four people who were there either every day or at the very least saw a majority of the practices.

16 players total received votes across the four ballots. Only five players were named on all four ballots and Anthony Richardson was the consensus No. 1 choice on all four ballots.

The number in parenthesis is the number of ballots player was on. Comments are a combination of responses from two of the four voters

LORENZO LINGARD

RB5 (1)It is going to definitely be a one-two punch with him and Montrell Johnson. Lorenzo has some of the best vision I’ve seen out of our running backs. It’ll be interesting to see him get more touches because he’s made the most out of this spring

WR8 (2)He had the most positive days of the receivers and he’s going to have to lead this underwhelming receiver group. He was going to be the number one guy by default but he has played some good ball this spring

DT11 (3)He’s always been a freak but because he is going to be draft-eligible he’s definitely taken his work ethic to the next level to go with his body. That and having a kid on the way has him more focused than he has been the first two years. I want to see a little bit more out of him

O’CYRUS TORRENCE

RG12 (3)He’s been a very nice added piece that completes this offensive line. He really opens up the holes inside for the backs and that will be much needed for Napier’s run-first offense

DE16 (3)He's making plays this spring but he hasn't come out of nowhere. He was killing it last year but didn't get to play that much. He can be a serious force on the defensive line. I promise you he’s going to be one of the stand out linemen next season

LB21 (3)When he got here he talked a good game but didn’t back it up, but he has seriously made strides since the end of the season. Some of it might be them letting him play one place instead of asking him to move around and learn all these other positions. He can react more instead of having to think all the time

OT23 (4)He’s the leader of the offensive line and the good thing is he is a worker and wants to be great because there’s no one behind him to push him and he doesn't have a lot of trouble blocking our defensive ends. He’ll definitely be one of the best tackles in the SEC if he stays healthy and doesn’t have any set backs

S30 (4)Has really made a lot of improvement this spring. Every day you can point to him making a few plays. He’s not just out there, he’s definitely competing for a starting safety spot and if he doesn’t win it outright he will share it. He won't be on the sidelines

MONTRELL JOHNSON

RB35 (4)We all underestimated him. He’s going to do big things in the SEC and open up this run game because he is the running back who doesn't get dropped in the backfield or stood up at the line. In both scrimmages, he was the running back who had the most 10-20 yard runs

LB36 (4)He is the leader of the defense. You saw a difference in the starters on the days he was practicing compared to the days he didn’t. The best thing that happened to us was to have him come back because he’s going to be a huge help this season

ANTHONY RICHARDSON

QB44 (4) By the far best player on the team. We have a good backfield but everything is going to be on his shoulders. He is going to have to be the leader and perform every game this year

Others who received votes: Trent Whittemore  9 (2 ballots), Ethan White 7 (2), Trey Dean 3 (2), Rashad Torrence 2 (1), Adam Mihalek 2 (1)

Notable:

  • Looking at the vote, the consensus is that the receiving corps isn't top-notch, but yet not a single cornerback received a vote from our four participants – leading me to believe that they are thought of as not being that talented rather than they faced a great group of cornerbacks each day
  • It was surprising that neither Brenton Cox or Kingsley Eguakun received a single vote
  • Anthony Richardson received all four of the first-place votes
