Billy Napier and Company continued their recruiting roll on Saturday afternoon when Jennings (La.) four-star running back Trevor Etienne‍ committed to Florida over Clemson and LSU.

Etienne has had one of the more interesting recruiting processes. Early on it was assumed that he would either stay instate and attend LSU or that he would follow in his brother Travis Etienne's footsteps and attend Clemson.

However, when his brother was drafted in the first round by the Jacksonville Jaguars, it gave Florida an 'in' with him.

That led to him including Florida in his early June top 10.

Though he was starting to take a closer look at the Gators, there was an issue. Back in mid-June Etienne informed Inside the Gators via Twitter direct message that he was having an issue getting in touch with the Florida coaching staff.

That problem was solved and less than two weeks later he was on campus at the end of June for an unofficial visit.

“I was trying to reach them because I wanted to visit there,” explained Etienne. “When I got to talk to them they said that they didn't think they really had a chance at first but then they went back and took a look and started recruiting me harder.”

After the visit, Florida was listed on his post-summer top five along with Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, and LSU.

Then, this is where big brother being so close helped set Florida apart from the pack.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, the Etienne family traveled to Jacksonville to visit with Travis, and they were then able to make the short trip down to Gainesville that weekend to catch the UF-FSU game.

That experience propelled Florida into his final three.

“I enjoyed it,” said Etienne. “It really lived up to the standard. It was great to see all the people in the stadium. It was packed. I just love it here."

Though that visit helped the Gators land in his top three, ITG was told by someone close to the situation that it was UF’s hiring of Napier, and more specifically Jabbar Juluke, that helped to seal the deal for Florida.

“All three programs he was down to have had some coaching situations come up, but I think that with UF getting these coaches he already has a relationship with and are well known around here, that along with his brother being close by, helped make the family feel comfortable with Florida. They know Coach Juluke's record and his ties here in the area and they trust him looking out for Trevor.”

Etienne is the No. 183 ranked prospect in the nation according to the 247 Sports Composite and the No. 1 rated prospect on ITG’s Great Eight Targets.
