Already an honorary member of the “Name Hall of Fame,” Trey Smack is coming to Gainesville with the Class of 2022.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound kicker from Severna Park, Maryland, has been relatively quiet compared to others during his recruiting process. With that said, you know the name. Now, let’s get to know the player and person a little better in this edition of Getting to Know.
What went into your commitment to the Gators? Why Florida over other programs?
“Truly the academics and the culture on the team. I was interested in some other schools, but when I got there in Gainesville it just felt like home.”
Were there any discussions or thoughts of opening it back up after Dan Mullen was let go and Billy Napier was hired? Or was it always Florida?
“There have been discussions on what’s going to happen next. But you can’t base recruiting off a coach, so I did some more research into the school for if Dan Mullen left, and it did happen. There’s more to Florida than the coaching staff.”
What brought you into kicking and punting? Did you play any other positions growing up?
“Originally I played soccer for my whole life. Then I wanted to try something new out and play football. I played tight end originally, but then I got moved to varsity my first year then I realized I can do pretty good in this. So, I went to a few Kohl’s camps, and I did really well.”
Have you talked to any of the other prospects in your class?
“I’ve had a chance to talk to a couple of the guys. I’m talking to a couple of guys that have offers and trying to get them to sway their way over to Gator Nation. I’ve talked to David Conner a little bit and Kamari [Wilson].”

Trey Smack is a cool name and Gator fans already love it. Any fun nicknames or phrases Gator fans should know?
“I actually really don’t. Usually, everybody just says ‘Oh you really smacked that ball through the uprights.’ I can’t wait to hear what they got.”
Is the Maryland kid ready for the Florida weather?
“Oh yeah. That’s going to be a big plus. It’s going to be awesome.”
Who has been the biggest role model for you in your life? Why?
“My parents. They supported me through everything.”
You’re given the AUX cord for the locker room, what is the go-to song you’re playing?
“I’m going to play Mr. Glock by Key Glock.”
What are three things on your bucket list?
“Travel to Europe.”
“Hit a game-winner against Alabama.”
“Going to a National Championship.”
If you could have dinner with three people from any point in history, who would they be?
“Abraham Lincoln. That’s the first thing that popped in my head.”
“Me in about 10 years. That would be pretty cool to see what’s going on.”
“Donald Trump. I just want to see what goes through his head on a daily basis.”
What would be your first purchase if you got drafted by the NFL?

What is one item that you cannot live without it? Why?
“A football, just can’t.”
What is your favorite movie?
“The Harry Potter series. The Chamber of Secrets is my favorite.”
If you could be one person in the world, who would that be?
“I’m kind of living the dream, so I like being myself right now.”
If you had a chance to go on a dream date, who would it be with?

Where do you see yourself five years from now?

What is one thing about you that the Gator Nation would be surprised to find out about you?
