Four-star lineman has decided, ready to announce

If everything had gone according to plan, at some point today we would be learning where Owasso (Ok.) four-star defensive lineman @Chris Mc">Chris McClellan‍ will be attending school.

However, now the 6-foot-4, 290-pounder has decided to delay his decision until next week.

Defection, after defection, means that it's basically come down to McClellan or bust when it comes to Florida and highly rated defensive linemen.

It is to the point where Florida doesn't just want someone of McClellan's talent level, they need him.

That is something Dan Mullen expressed to McClellan on Monday.

“He said, no one ever planned on having this kind of season, but frankly it's embarrassing to lose to South Carolina and to have the season they're having and in total, they need me there to start helping them rebuild.”

According to McClellan, during the call, Mullen explained why he felt it was necessary to cut Todd Grantham loose and go in another direction.

“It was different than any of the other recruiting talks I've had,” said McClellan. “Having a head coach talk to me about why he did something with his coaches. Coach Mullen explained to me that he feels like this move is the best thing for them going forward in order for them to set up a winning program.”

Grantham may be gone, but the coach who is mainly responsible for recruiting him to Florida, David Turner, is still on staff.

McClellan explained the part college coaches play in his recruiting process.

“You know coaches are a major part of it because even if the school is your dream school, you fall in love with the coaching staff. No matter what guys say, the reason most of us commit is that we want to be around the coaches that recruited us. That's definitely going to play a big role in my commitment.”

Going into the week, McClellan was planning on making his announcement today (Wednesday) but said he has delayed his pledge until next week.

“I'm ready to get it done, get the recruiting process over with and go ahead and commit,” said McClellan. “I was going to do it tomorrow [Wednesday], but I had some family stuff go down, so hopefully I'll be doing it next week.”

Back in August McClellan named a top six of Alabama, Florida, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Southern Cal.

At the end of September, after visiting Gainesville to see the Gators take on Alabama, McClellan told Inside the Gators that two programs, Florida and Oklahoma, were standing out.

When he makes his decision, he said he will have six hats on the table.

“There will be six hats on the table, the top six I've had with Oregon replacing one of them.”

The Ducks are new to the scene, but could still get a visit in the next couple of weeks.

“I'm out of [official] visits after I took my last one to Alabama two weeks ago,” said McClellan. “I might try to go out to Oregon.”

Regardless, of where else he may or may not go, McClellan said he has made his choice already.

“I have a school that I've been thinking of,” stated McClellan. “It was definitely the feeling that I got while I was there and how they've recruited me throughout the whole process.”

McClellan is the No. 101 ranked prospect in the nation according to the 247 Sports Composite.

The Inside Scoop: McClellan said that he delayed his decision because of a family issue, but you have to feel like he was likely committing to Florida today over Oklahoma before the coaching change – and Grantham being fired has caused him to pump the brakes on making a pledge. Is he waiting to get more intel on David Turner's status with the Gators?
