Florida out in-front for four-star Lyons with a couple of planned return visits in mind

Over the weekend Florida defensive tackle Gervon Dexter tweeted at Walter Nolen‍ and Jamari Lyons‍, two of the Gators' top remaining defensive line targets.

While Dexter interacted with both of them during their June official visits, it was Melbourne (Fla.) Vierra four-star Lyons who he served as the player host during his time on campus.

What Dexter tweeted out Friday is exactly the message he had while the 6-foot-4, 290-pounder was on his visit.

“Gervon, his message to me was that pretty much you are going to love it here,” said Lyons. “You have a great opportunity to get on the field. That everything Coach [David] Turner and Coach [Dan] Mullen had told him came true.”

In the weeks since his official visit, Lyons said that Dexter has been relentless in his pursuit.

“Big bro tells me to just pull the trigger,” said Lyons. “That they really need big playmakers.”

It isn't just Dexter who is doing the heavy lifting to persuade Lyons that Florida is the best fit for him.

“The biggest highlight on my visit was when I was able to have a one-on-one conversation with Coach Mullen. His motto is pretty much ‘Think Gators’, and how its a lifestyle.”

In the month of June Lyons officially visited Florida and Indiana, while taking an unofficial trip to South Carolina.

According to Lyons, the two-day stay on campus helped Florida, who was already in good shape with him, vault to the lead.

“The visit put them high because mainly I felt I can be myself around the coaches and players. It’s like I'm right at home. So right now Florida stands out the most.”

Now, he has a couple of more visits in mind over the next several months.

“I'm going to try towards the end of the month to make it back to Florida, and if I have time I'll be there for the BBQ (being held on Saturday the 31st),” said Lyons in explaining his upcoming visit schedule. “I'm definitely going to be at the Alabama game (September 18) and I'm going to South Carolina in September (for an official visit), and I'm trying to set things up with Ohio State for a visit.”

All of those visits will have to take place before the first week of October because that is when will be making his choice.

“The plan is I will be committing October 6th – on my mom's birthday.”

Lyons is the No. 343 ranked prospect in the nation according to the 247 Sports Composite.

The Inside Scoop: Though nothing is a given in recruiting until the LOI is signed and faxed in, it wasn't by accident that Lyons came in as the No. 2 most likely to sign with Florida on our Countdown of the 29 June Florida Official Visitors as well as being included in all three of our Mock Classes this cycle. He works at Wawa, and that’s why he said though he wants to get back to campus this month, he isn’t sure if he will be able to make it.
