Gerald Mincey fulfilled a childhood dream when he pledged his commitment to the University of Florida before his senior season.
Now, just a few months away from starting his college football career, the offensive lineman will head to Gainesville with a high football IQ, a friend group, and the chance to compete for a starting spot on a young offensive line.
But, there’s much more to Mincey than just his ability to protect the passer, as you’ll find out in this edition of Getting to Know.
What are you doing now, during this lockdown?
“I just try to work out whenever I can. Push-ups, abs, just getting active whenever I can.”
What do you plan on majoring in?
What would be your first purchase if you got drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft?
“An apartment… I’m gonna sit in a big house all by myself? An apartment is fine.”
What is one item that you cannot live without it?
What is your favorite professional football team?
“The Baltimore Ravens.”
Who is your favorite professional player right now?
“Lamar Jackson. I like the Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson.”
Who has been the biggest role model for you in your life?
What are your favorite types of music? Do you have a favorite artist or song?
“My favorite type of music is rap, and I like Kodak Black and Rylo Rodriguez.”
What is your favorite movie?
What is your favorite TV show?
“Star Wars. Big Star Wars fan.”
If you could spend the day with anyone, past or present, who would it be and why?
“Zendaya. I had a big crush on her since I was 13.”
What are three things on your bucket list?
“Be an All-American in college, be a starter in college, and be a starter in the NFL.”
What is one thing about you that the Gator Nation would be surprised to find out about?
“I like to cook. I’m a good cook. I make a good chicken alfredo.”
If there is one thing you could change about the recruiting process, what would it be?
“Really nothing. Florida was at the top of my list since I was a little kid, and I always just wanted to be a Gator.”
If you could play a sport outside of football, which sport would it be?
“Basketball. Basketball was my first sport.”
What is your favorite football memory?
“Winning the state championship my junior year of high school. (Mincey won the championship at Cardinal Gibbons along with Gators BUCK Khris Bogle.).”
What would you say are some of your greatest strengths as a football player? What do you need to work on?
“My strengths are football IQ, like just understanding everything about the game and I’m hardworking. When I get to campus, I want to get in the weight room and get stronger.”
What is the most appealing part to you about the University of Florida?
“Being in a winning environment. Everybody wants to be great and reach their full potential. Coach [Dan] Mullen and the rest of the coaching staff did an excellent job of bringing a winning attitude to Gainesville.”
Who is the prospect that you have talked to the most from the Class of 2020?
“Richie Leonard, Anthony Richardson, Derek Wingo, Jonathan Odom and Issiah Walker.”
If you could pick any jersey number, what would it be?
“54 or 58. A number in the 50s for sure.”
