Four-star Borders has admirable goals on and off the field

With nearly a year between now and when the Class of 2021 will actually put pen to paper, Florida currently has the No. 4 ranked class in the nation and the best in the SEC, according to the 247 Sports Team Rankings Composite.

One of those pledges being Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern four-star linebacker Chief Borders‍, who committed to the Gators in November and is already excited about representing the Gator Standard.

“Everything’s going great,” Borders said. “I just love the environment. Every time the coaching staff reaches out to me, it’s something special. Just remarkable.”

Borders mostly keeps in touch with coaches on the defensive side of the ball, but the ties he has built with those coaches run deep.

“I’ve known Coach [Dan] Mullen since he was at Mississippi State, and it’s been only poppin since then,” he said. “I’m most definitely close with Coach Mullen and Coach Rob [Christian Robinson]. Coach [Todd] Grantham, too.”

The 6-foot-3, 230-pound prospect has 22 offers ahead of his senior season, but he says he’s “very solid” with his commitment.

Most prospects will tell you there’s more to a commitment than just football. Some will specifically cite academics as one of the biggest factors that plays into the final decision.

Borders seems to have his entire post-graduate life set up after he earns his degree from the University of Florida.

“It’s the No. 7 public university, and they have a medical school and hospital on campus and they just fit me.”

Borders isn’t worried about the ample medical opportunities in Gainesville because he’s foreseeing an injury, though. He wants to be one of the members on staff who makes a difference.

If wanting to pursue the pre-med track while also playing football sounds impossible, just remember that with a name like Chief Borders, you have to think big.

“I’m growing up,” he said. I’ve always been into medical, and I’ve always loved children too. Being a pediatrician is my pathway to go.”

Borders is the No. 234 ranked prospect in the nation according to the 247 Sports Composite.
