When Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy defensive back Markevious Brown‍ placed Florida in his announced top seven choices, it looked like the Gators had some work cut out for them due to the stiff competition.

UF joined Alabama, Georgia, Penn State, Miami, Tennessee and Mississippi State on the edit Brown posted back in October. This week, he revealed to Inside the Gators that Michigan is also on his radar.

Now, the 6-foot, 170-pounder recently implied he had chopped down his list even further.

Though he refused to name any sort of leaders, “Just the schools in my top seven,” he said when asked, reading between the tea leaves shows that Florida may have netted a spot further up his board, as the Pahokee, Florida, native seems to be planning a visit to Gainesville.

“Hopefully sometime in late January,” he said about when he’s expecting to come to campus.

Plus, Brown himself admitted the Gators are in a good position.

“Florida definitely stands strong in my top seven.”

Many of the 2021 prospects are trying to get to know as many coaches as possible in the year or so they have before making a decision. Brown seems to have zeroed in on one Gators coach.

Todd Grantham,” he said. “Just getting to know me on a more personal level.”

As Grantham’s name continues to pop up in the pool of candidates for Mississippi State’s next head coach, Brown will be a prospect to keep an eye on if Grantham to the Bulldogs continues to gain traction.

However, Brown also said the flexible traits he possesses as a player can translate to a number of spots in the Swamp.

“I can play at all the positions: nickel, corner and safety at Florida.”

Brown is the No. 261 rated prospect in the nation according to the 247 Sports Composite.
