At times during the recruiting process, college coaches see things in players that high school coaches – or even the players themselves – do not always catch.

Jahari Rogers‍ was a very good high school quarterback in Arlington, Texas, until his junior year.

In January 2019, when cornerbacks coach Torrian Gray was hired to the Gators staff, one of his first offers at the position was to Rogers, who switched to corner during his senior season and cracked the 6A All-State team, which is no joke in the Lone Star State.

Now, just weeks away from enrolling early at his dream school, Rogers gave Inside the Gators an in-depth look at his recruitment process, how he lets his playing do the talking and more in this edition of Getting to Know.

If you a chance to go on a dream date, who would it be with?

Aside: Upon learning he was not the first Gator signee to name Zendaya as his would be dream date, Rogers pondered whether Zendaya was really his dream date before changing his answer to singer Danileigh.

What would be your first purchase if you got drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft?
”I would buy my mom some type of SUV. I’m not sure which, but I know she likes big cars.”

What is one item that you cannot live without it? Why?
“My phone, honestly.”

Who has been the biggest role model for you in your life? Why?
”I would say my mom because of how hard she’s worked over the years. Even in this process, she took me to camps and visits all around the country. That just shows how hardworking she is.”

What are your favorite types of music? Do you have a favorite artist or song?
”I like rap music, and Gunna is my favorite artist. I like Roddy Rich, too.”

What is your favorite movie?
”Drumline with Nick Cannon. It’s the best movie to me.”

What is your favorite TV show?
”Mindhunters. It’s a Netflix show about the FBI and how they first started tracking killers.”

If you could meet one person in the world, who would that be?
”Cam Newton. Just the energy he brings, and he’s my favorite player. I’ve seen him at camps, like his camp, even though I never got to talk to him. I would love to spend a day with him.”

Where do you see yourself five years from now?
“Hopefully getting drafted and graduated from the University of Florida. Going to the NFL is my dream.”

What are three things on your bucket list?
”I want to travel around the world. I would like to get in a hot-air balloon. I want to go scuba diving.”

Aside: When told that there is actually a scuba diving class at UF, Rogers said he said he will definitely have to take it. So, it looks like the incoming freshman will knock one thing off his bucket list before he graduates from college.

What is one thing about you that the Gator Nation would be surprised to find out about?
”I watch anime. I really like it a lot.”

Take us through the process that led to your commitment. What was that experience like for you?
”I never really thought I’d get an offer from Florida. My 7v7 team took a tour of the facilities one day, and I wasn’t even supposed to go. I was supposed to go to the OU cookout that day. But we took a tour of the facilities and saw Coach [Torrian] Gray, and it was one of his first days on campus.

“I was one of the first DBs Gray offered when he first got there. He already knew who I was so I think my coach said something, but he took me in and offered me a scholarship to the University of Florida as a DB based on camps and how I did on tape in tournaments and stuff. It was honestly a dream come true cause Florida was my favorite school growing up. It was a wow! moment.”

Which school came in second for you and why?
”Probably Oklahoma. My grandfather went there, so I was a legacy, and it was probably one of my top schools throughout my recruitment. Then a whole bunch of stuff happened so they sunk down like to the bottom of my list. It was whatever at that point. I was always in love with Florida.”

Do you have an interesting story about Dan Mullen that you can tell me?
”He’s so chill. Most people can tell how chill he is. Most coaches are so cocky, but Mullen just gets down to business about how much he wants you and how the program, players and coaches are. He knows everybody on the team, which is so shocking.”

What would you say are some of your greatest strengths as a football player?
”Speed, intelligence and I’m a leader. I don’t really talk a lot, but my actions on the field… a lot of people gravitate to it.”

Who is the prospect that you have talked to the most from the Class of 2020?
”Probably Antwaun Powell or Ja’quavion Fraziars are the ones I talk to the most.”
